Does ANYONE make a saddle-mount scope base for Browning Auto-5 shotguns? B-Square makes them, but they're backordered. Weaver makes them for shotguns I don't own, which makes for a much more expensive proposition.

FRANKLY, I'd settle for a barrel-mounted ghost-ring system. My eyes are old, but I can still see viable targets at shotgun ranges without the need of a scope.

Viable suggestions I haven't covered will also be entertained.

A ghost ring doesn't work very well IMHO when mounted out on the barrel of a repeating shotgun - the rear sight needs to be on the receiver, close to the shooter's eye, to do the job as intended.

You might consider Express type sights on the barrel, with a shallow vee rear and a bead front... See http://www.xssights.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=993532&CAT=8270 for a set mounted on an 870.

i had an a-5 with 2 barrels--26 invector and a hastings rifled barrel. tried the saddle mount with the hastings--recoil destroyed a 1x4 leuopold--they replaced.

ended up ditching the hastings and having a williams rear site installed on the vector with open choke using the barrel front bead. i was able to ding beer cans at 100yds using foster slugs.:D

How about a Skinner ghost ring sight. You would have to drill and tap the receiver and add a tall enough front sight, but a Skinner would look good on the A-5.

Thanks, guys, for your input. I started this thread, then life got'''ëntertaining" for me, and I forgot all about it. Sorry to have taken so long to reply.

I looked at Skinner's website and found mounts for Browning RIFLES, but not shotguns. I'll inquire of them over the weekend. I DO AGREE that it would be a very attractive set-up despite the need for drilling and tapping.

Haven't looked at the Williams Sight site yet, but will do so over the weekend, also. Again, thanx for the input! It's VERY reassuring to remember that, if I want to try to do a certain thing with a particular firearm, there's probably someone a few keystrokes away who's tried it before me, and can save me a world of trouble and, possibly, hurt.
