I'm trying to mount my Nikon Buckmaster 6-18X40 on my Stevens Mod. 200. I bought a one piece base that fits the Savage Mod. 10 short action. I've got it on, but the front of the scope is low and the rear is higher. In other words it looks like it isn't the correct base. It doesn't look like it fits the rear of the receiver snuggly. It just kind of sits up there. The bottom of the rear of the base is not rounded to fit on the rounded receiver of the rifle. Do I have the right base? I'm afraid that it won't have enough adjustment for elevation. It looks pretty pronounced too. I had no problem fitting it on and didn't know anything was wrong (If there is) until I was finished and looked at it. The surfaces were clean. It just doesn't look like it was made for it. Anybody have any ideas?

You have the wrong base. If they make one for it get it or fit the one you have. You will need to adjust the rear so that the base is even when mounted on the receiver.
