I’ve had enough of replacing broken Butler Creek caps (craps?)

Anyone have a better alternative?

i believe i have the tenebraex. (nightforce logo'd but they look just like teneb to me) they are much, much more durable than butler creek. i haven't broken them yet, but i have broken more butler creek than i can count.

that said, they are a little annoying in some regards. they don't seem to want to lay as flat and they're larger and higher profile, so they obstruct my view

I’ve got Butler Creeks on about all my scopes. I’ve got Leupold covers on my VX-6. They are great, but as noted, quite costly

The only way to keep the Butler Creek ones from breaking is to open them just before shooting, then snap them back shut. I’d had a set that were four years old. I let my friend use my deer rifle. He broke them in ten minutes.

I’m interested in seeing what everybody has to say.

I use bikini covers, take them off and leave them in the vehicle when I hunt, put them back on when I’m through.
friend of mine tucks them thru the back of his hat.
Ive only got the Butler Creek flip ups so far, but those tenebraex look really nice, if expensive....still cheaper then the aluminas.

I like the bikini covers but also have a few of the regular Butler Creek covers. Butler Creek also makes a see through cover called "Blizzard See Through Rifle Scope Cover" that has clear see through covers that can be flipped up or sighted through without flipping it up. The "Blizzard " ones I have seem to stay put better and only pop up when I want them to. I prefer them to the regular Butler Creek caps. Pretty good stuff without spending big bucks.

I love the Leupold Aluminas. Honestly the Aluminas and their CDS system is what sways me to buy Leupold more than other brands.

I use and love the bikini covers. I've never liked the flip up caps at all. I don't want something sticking up on my scope when shooting and find them annoying.

As for whether you like flip-up caps or not might depend on where you hunt. In this part of the world there is a good chance it will be raining or snowing during hunting season. To me they are practically a necessity.

I see 2 of the bikini cover guys are from TX and NM. :)

If I had a Kahles 624 Scope I sure wouldn't put Butler Creek or any other inexpensive covers on it that's for sure.:)

Where I hunt the chance of snow isn’t great but the chance of rain is very good. The style of hunting is probably different though if you are talking deer. Where I’m located the only walking you do is to the deer stand and then the scope is out of the elements.

No covers for me. They stay in the box or get thrown away. In the time you can flip the caps up you can clean the glass if needed.

Cleaning wares on even the best coatings, some are tougher than others, but eventually all ware.

Mine eat rain, dust, branches....stuff. it's the lava dust that really ruins scope lenses.

I really can't remember what either of those two things you speak of are. Just faint memories are all I have. :D Dust, lots of dust, I know about. I've even been to a place named, of all things, Dusty.
