so apparently leupold doesn't send out scope covers on their vx freedom scopes. at least I didn't get one with mine. so what are ya'll using? I know of the leupold aluminum flip covers, but those are too expensive. And there is the butler creek bikini at the other end of the spectrum. In the middle are the neoprene covers and the butler creek flip ups. I think one of those options might be for me.

Is there a better, affordable option than the butler creek flip-ups? Something that flips all the way open and lays flat against the scope body?
Or a recommendation of a small neoprene cover that would fit this scope? 1-4x20, 9.5" long.

Also, here is my brief review of the vx-freedom 1.5-4x20

The good: nobody does small size like Leupold. It is short, trim and light. If you have a need or desire for a small scope, Leupold has got you covered. And the glass is pretty good. There's a lot better glass out there, but this is ok.

The bad: the turret adjustments. Oh they're so bad. Mushy, vague, just blegh. When I start adjusting I'm always wondering "was that a click? Was that pretravel? I don't know!"

The cost cutting: 1) plastic turret caps. Sure they work, and it's not big deal, but it is cheap.2) no lens covers. Where did the nice rubber lens cover Leupold used to include go? Same place Burris hid theirs I guess. Cheapskates. Couldn't have cost them a dollar to make it....... 3) I just called Leupold and was told I was #46 in line to talk to somebody.

Summary: $150 scope glass with $70 scope turrets in a nice form factor with a Leupold markup being sold for $200. If you don't need or want the small package, I'd buy something else.

I've been looking for something called "Bushwacker" flip up scope covers for the 1-4x 20mm Leupold that's on my .30-30.. I've had a set on the 2.5x 20mm Leupold on my 870 slug gun for probably 20 years now. Haven't seen any in years and I thought they were history until today when I started googling them and discovered them made by an outfit called "Quake Industries". IMG_0159.JPG Been through lots of inclement weather and the only problem was the front cover fit pretty loose and could slip off but if you look close in the picture there's a cable tie wrapped around it now.... Problem solved. They might be worth looking into. I'm looking into a set for the 1-4x on the .30-30. Here's the 870 with the covers flipped up.

You can make a pretty good scope cover my cutting a strip from an old inter tube. Like an oversize rubber band.

Still using BCs on both my Leupolds of that size and others. I do have a Scope Coat neoprene cover, Medium Size on my 3-9 Mark AR and I know one is marketed for the smaller scopes as well.

Haven’t replaced the occular Butler Creek cover that broke since I’ve been using a RDS on my AR for the past few years.

I use the butler creek flip up caps on my 1x4-20 leupolds and when moving I add the leupold elastic cover.

I have Butler Creek flip-up covers for several of my scopes, but eventually I went to neoprene stretch covers on all my scopes. Amazon is a good source for the neoprenes & I also bought several at rock-bottom prices on Ebay because they had various logo's on them.
