Scope eye.

Once... 30.06

I was using a tree branch to steady the rifle, but being a noob I stood a little to far away from the stock while squeezing the trigger. OUCH!

Today actually, sighting in a .270wsm. I got down to find the target and locked down on it. Concentrating specifically on the little red dot about 150 yards away, I didn't realize I didn't have the rifle properly seated against my shoulder.

So when I pulled the trigger, nice little kick in the forehead. I'm not sure how it missed the eye exactly. So I got scope forehead I guess.

In my defense, it was the first time I ever fired that rifle. I was expecting recoil similar to a .30-06. It wasn't much worse, but lesson learned.

Friend has a .30-06 Winchester model 70, and the cheap scope it came with had about 1.75" of eye relief. First time he shot it, huge RED WELT around his eyebrow, and some blood. He now has a neat scar. :)

Got a beauty once. My cousin borrowed my 30-06 and moved the scope back without telling me. Oh man, how that hurt. Needless to say I have NEVER loaned out a gun since to anyone for anything.

yep, damned see through mounts! .300 H&H magnum pre 64 winchester 70. fortunetly, the scar resides in my eye brow, so it isnt really noticeable. i am glad we were just out shooting and not hunting.

My brother got a nasty one from my grandfather's 30.06 when we were kids. You should've seen the rest of us craning our heads back away from the scope when we resumed shooting.

Before I learned the value of a good scope with long eye relief (and before I could afford one, as well) I had a mid-priced Simmons on a lightweight 30-06 that bit me a couple of times when I was antelope hunting in Wyoming.

Nice pics from that hunt--you can see more blood on me than on the antelope.

I bought a used M1A with a .....stock stock. I didn't realize that When the scope is mounted that high over the action, with a relief defined by the mount, it's pretty much a given that you must use a stock with a raised comb, so that you don't have to LEAN SO FAR INTO THE SCOPE YOU WILL GET HIT WITH IT. Repeatedly. With the range safeties laughing at you while they go get you a band-aid.

Ok Shawnee...but I was 12 and it was the first time I ever shot a rifle more powerful than 22lr. My brother has a .243 and I had been plinking all afternoon with my scoped 10/22. I held onto the gun tightly expecting it to kick, but still stuck my face right up against the scope.

Around my next of the woods, we call it the ole "Tasco Rash"! It's never happened to me and I've only seen it done once before. A hunting buddy of mine used his '83 Yamaha three-wheeler as a rest when shooting at a deer. The old dirty-30 have him the Tasco Rash...but he still downed the deer. It drew blood....on him as well as the deer!

strange 30-06, cheap scope, 1994 Extended cab chevrolet and a coyote 200yds out.

Much cussing and some bleeding was involved, I still have the scar. But I did succeed in punching that coyote's ticket. I learned a valuable lesson to live by between that and another incident. Nothing good ever comes from firing a firearm from a motor vehicle.

Cheap optics belong only on .22's

Nothing good ever comes from firing a firearm from a motor vehicle.

People at work are staring at me wondering what I'm laughing so hard about!

I'd amend that comment to say "Nothing good ever comes from firing a gun from anything with a motor!" Boats, tractors, combines, and 3-wheelers included.

30-06 deer hunting bout 4 years ago. 3 shots, first two were fine but missed. Paused for a second to figure out where I was missing and in the process got too close to the scope. 3rd shot hit both the deer and my eye. Just gave me a shiner, no blood.

once. NEF Handi-Rifle in 30-06 with a cheap scope. Didn't really feel it until the guy with me pointed out the blood on my eyebrow. Does that mean that I am a numbskull?:what:

Seen a gal at the range jack herself up real bad wit a .300 mag. At first her soon to be X boy friend thought it was funny. I ended up taking her to the hospital.

scope eye

In the 70s I was flying for a car dealer. One of his big time customers had me run some clients to a deer lease in Hebbronville. Take them down on Friday, pick them up Monday.
They showed up with Ambercrombie and Fitch hunting gear and turbo charged Weatherby magnuns. Dropped them on Friday and Mondays pick, 4 neophites woth scope eye. Had a hard time not laughing.

It happened to my wife this past Monday. We were changing deer hunting locations and decided to site in one of her rifles before going to the new spot for the afternoon hunt. I had put a scope on her Marlin 1894 .44 magnum. It was loaded up with some hot soft points. She was having a hard time getting a clear site picture and pulled the scope in close. I was watching her shoot but she was wearing a cap that prevented me from seeing how close she was. One shot and a 2" cut to the bone through her right eyebrow. A trip to the ER ended our day. This was the first time I had ever seen it happen she is a regular shooter she knew what she was doing and it still happened.
