scope for Marlin

I put a Leupold 1-4x VX-II on my Marlin 1895G and I feel it's plenty of scope for that gun. I almost alway keep it on 1 or 2x and it does the job.

I like the mueller apv, though the sightron s1 is ok and a little more compact. Both under 150. That said, I wouldn't go with anything more powerful than a 2-7x myself.

A 1-3x or 1-4x would be good for a 44 mag.

4-12x was too much for my 30 06.

But to answer the question, Nikon Prostaff 4-12x is good and affordable.

12X isn't crazy if you are just playing at the range, I would think that for hunting you wouldn't need that considering the effective range of the rifle...

look at prices at bearbasin (google them) and go from there, in my opinion any cheap 12X glass and you are going to sacrifice the first and last 20 minutes of hunting light but at 12 noon the difference between a $200 scope and a $2000 scope is probably not much more than 20% in any category you care to name, and I would bet money it's more like 10% tops. In low light, there's a much bigger returns on your money.

Thanks for the advice guys, My 44mag is used for a special purpose, I also like to see the holes put into the paper at 50 yards with out using a spotting scope, I do have a 1.5 x 4 but that's on my home defense weapon. The range is my back yard, I shoot most days out to 300 yards, but mostly 50 and 100 yards
