Put a Henry 22 rimfire on layaway. Has the rail for scope. Can't focus open sights anymore. What would be a decent budget scope for this rifle. Use small game or plinking...thanks. Johnny

I really like the Leupold 4x rimfire. I have 2. they go for $299 pretty universally, but they can be found cheaper if you spend time digging online or gunbroker. The vortex 2-7 rimfire is $130 I may order one for my savage 22 mag

UTG Bugbuster has a great reputation at about half the price of a Leupold., It's a short scope so I don't know if it will work on the Henry.

I found an old glossy finished Bushnell ScopeChief (only sightly longer than the UTG) at a gunshow that went on mine and goes good with the LBF's glossy finish. With no cataracts any more irons are doable but I'm always more accurate with a scope. I put my first scope on a 22 when I was 15 years old, had excellent eyesight, and it improved my accuracy. That was 71 years ago.

I'm paddling the same boat with my Henry. I didn't go budget, I went CHEAP. Put a Simmons .22Mag scope ($39.95 at Walmart) on it. So far, shot a few thousand rounds
with it and it's holding up well. I have been shooting at 25yds (indoor range).

For what its worth, I too have a Simmons .22 Mag scope on my Norinco SA-22 copy. Its been on the rifle since 2020 and spent 18,000 miles stowed above the spare tire in an old Corolla my brother and I used to see all the National Parks west of the Mississippi during covid. It has held zero over about 1000 rounds and 4 years and I killed a few squirrels with it this fall.

Normally I am a believer in “good” glass but for a plinker used under 50 yards it works fine.

OP wants a BUDGET rimfire scope:

I put quite a few BSA scopes on .22’s while working in a big box store. I’ve personally never had one come back due to scope failure. That’s noteworthy due to their price point.

I was impressed enough by the features to put them on some of my .22’s.

Here is a compact version that should fit well on the Henry. They have other models as well.

I'll check it out. Thanks for the information.. johnny

I didn’t know Tasco still made scopes. I bought a fixed 4x Simmons and put it on my Henry for ammo testing. It worked well and didn’t make it look like I bought a scope and got a free rifle.

I prefer the Henry with iron sights for now, though I suspect in a few years I’ll be looking for some magnification. The Simmons currently rests on my 336 for testing cast hand loads.

Didn't know Simmons was still in business..
Go to Natchezz shooters supply far a.wide choice of scopes at great prices. Also MidwayUSA.
I have a couple of Simmons scopes and they work well. I really don't like "rimfire" scopes on any rifle as I think I get better light gathering and better adjustments with ones designed for centerfires.

I really like the Leupold 4x rimfire.
Because of the size of the rifle I might be looking at a gru-bee scope.

Otherwise probably a 1" straight tube 1-4ish, used shotgun scopes work well, and theres some decent cheap options on amazon and ebay
have you tried a Gru Bee scope? Just checked out their website. 3/4 tube 4x etc... wonder if they hold up.

A 1-4X with a 20mm front objective or something similar is just about right for any lever action. You'll be amazed at how fast you can get on target on 1X or 1.5X. It's faster and easier than iron sights and 4X on the top end is enough magnification for most uses.

Plus, those scopes are as small and light as you can get and don't look too out of place on a lever gun.

I have a vintage K3 Weaver on one of my 39A Marlins. This 39A is the rifle with pistol grip. I used a Weaver mount and Warne QR rings. I can pop the scope off when I feel Annie Oakley and use the irons.

no doubt im a fan of low power for squirrel, woodchucks type hunting. For just wondering about their track record. are they as durable as a vortex at similar price? I may give one a shot. I like small and light. any pics of yours?

I havent yet, i dont have any small rifles where they would work well.
@Riomouse911 has a thread on a couple he bought here.

I might. Tough when Vortex has a rimfire scope for the same amount of coin.

Depends on what you consider budget. I would say Vortex Crossfire 2-7x32 rimfire or Leupold VX Freedom 2-7x35 rimfire is as budget as I’d go. Whatever you decide on make sure you mount it as low as possible or it will be awkward, unless you use a cheek riser on the stock.

That’s one reason I pulled the scope off my Henry. The other reason is it sort of overpowered the gun.
