I am new at this and this is my first rifle, I have been a shotgun guy. Anyway, I bought a new Browning X-bolt medallion and Nikon Monarch 3-14. After I went out to sight in the scope, I noticed some marks on the side of the gun being made by the shell being ejected. The shell is hitting the bottom of the scopes windage adjustment when it is being ejected. Does the scope mount look correct? Or is it too low to the gun. The eye relief is fine for me.
I am not as concerned about the marks, since I do know it will get more when I go out to hunt. I just want to make sure the scope mount and height off the gun looks correct.
Thanks.

Looks perfect to me. Ideally, you want the scope as close the the bore centerline as possible, so the lowest mount that will clear the bolt is preferred. The ejected rounds will not harm your Nikon. I you are concerned about it, a 1-piece mount might catch the empties first, but it is not necessary. Maybe a little less force when yanking that bolt?

Very nice looking combo! I agree with AKElroy - the closer the better. Not sure what to do about the marks on the wood, though. Seems like there should be something to put there to protect it, but I have no idea how or what. Like the man said, maybe a little less muscle on the bolt?

The problem is not the mounts, but the scope from my perspective. Those caps stick way out to the side. Normally I like scopes mounted as low as possible and yours looks about right looking at the front objective. You may have to go higher to clear the scope adjustment caps.. I would get a smaller scope.
