Ok I have decided to purchase a scope but I'm not sure if it will fit on my flat top upper and clear the front sight post. Its got a 44mm objective so could someone recommend a set of scope rings, a set of 30mm diameter ones and also a set of 1inch diameter scope rings that would allow the scope to clear the front sight post. I'm really not looking to spend more than 30$ on the rings.

What diameter tube does your scope have? What issue do you think you'll have with the front post? At low mag you might get a shadow but at higher mags you should look past the post. Even my 2x7x32 on low rings the front sight isn't a problem. With the big obj on your scope you'll need high rings so the front sight should be less of a problem.

My Armalite flat-top wears a Leupold Mark AR 3-9X scope.

Just for appearance's sake, I also mounted a DPMS removable front sight.

The front sight DOES NOT APPEAR IN THE SCOPE in normal handling; that is, it's just as if there is no front sight on the rifle.

Mission accomplished.... the rifle still "looks like a rifle", and it performs perfectly with a clear field of view through the scope.

By "Clearing the front sight", do you plan on having a very long scope that extends beyond the FSB, or are you taking about height? You will not see the sight in the scope unless its a very low power. I would go for a co-witness set up if I were scoping an AR, having the same cheek weld is a good thing...

This is the combo I have on one AR. Nice solid setup.

Yep, you won't see the front sight in the scope, no need to try to get the scope up over it.

But if you really like high, try this .75 riser or this 1.0 riser with high or extra high rings..
How do you mount those 44mag cases to the gun? (Your top link) lol

Change your gas block, they are cheap and take 5 minutes to swap out. I have a set I vortex 30mm tall rings and they are good but probably in the same class as utg or ncstar

Stop the madness!

You don't need to change the gas block or do anything to the rifle itself.
The FSB will not show up in the scope. You just need to pick up a one piece AR scope mount.

The front sight does NOT get picked up in the view of the scope

I have a Nikon fixed 3X P223 scope on my flattop. In order to get it up high enough to use without craning my neck over, I had to put a 1" riser under the special P223 Nikon rings. It works great that way. That's a very good combination, by the way. It keeps the rifle light, but is a big step above non-magnifying sights.

Just get any AR mount. It should put the scope at the proper height. Any magnification over 2x, you will focus past the front sight poste.

good mounts, from least to most expensive:
Burris PEPR
American Defense Recon
LaRue Tactical SPR

If you want really cheap, Primary Arms sells a couple of cheap mounts that will get the correct height.

I have a Nikon fixed 3X P223 scope
on my .300 BLK using the mount and rings I linked to. I had it in the Nikon rings/mounts that came with it, but wanted to use them for something else. The new set up gets it slightly higher. I need a new pic.

As posted, with any reasonable magnification you will not see the front sight. Pick a height that is comfortable, or co-witnesses with the sights if you are concerned about that.

If money is a issue you can use Weaver See Through Scope Mounts that will mount on top of flat top receiver. They cost about 11.00 at Wally World. Not real pretty but utilitarian and in a hurry you can look through the bases and see close up targets clear enough just lining the barrel up.

I have a 1X scope on my shorty AR with Daniel Defense 14" forearm and I put one of these on and it is correct height for fast scope acquisition.

"Just for appearance's sake, I also mounted a DPMS removable front sight."

For appearance's sake? You mean you have a front sight mounted because it "looks right" without even having a rear sight? Why?

But what the others have said is true...a simple AR mount will do the trick. I have one made by Rock River on my AR that works just fine with my Redfield 2x7

The front sight will be out of focus and invisible if your scope is set on 3X magnification or greater. If you opt for a lower power scope it will be visible through your scope, but will not be any more of a problem than when using iron sights. No special mounts needed. If it bothers you simply replace it, or cut the front sight off.

I run this on mine. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003NZ9W9E/ref=pd_aw_sbs_sg_4?pi=SS115

Mounts solid, seems well made, takes a 30mm tube with plastic Inserts for 1". I run the 1" insert with my scope. At 42$ it may be more than you want t spend, but something similar should work fine for you.

You can even cut the front sgiht off if you want to instead of replacing the gas block. It is pretty easy and there are detailed instructions over on ar15.com

Yes, I mounted the DPMS front sight because it "looks right".

Why? How about "because it's MY rifle and I like it that way."

Besides, I DO have a Troy rear sight, which will not mount correctly with the leupold scope installed. Since it's a matter of a moment to remove the glass and install the iron sight, and I see much better with the scope, there's no contest.

With all the useless tacticool junk I see on others' rifles, I'm not worried about my motivation in this regard.

My rifle experience extends over sixty years, and I think I can sort out my own likes and dislikes at this late date. Heavens, it took me until Christmas 2010 to buy my first AR15! An original AR10 back in the '70s left a pretty bad taste in my mouth; it took that long to overcome it.
