Well, I've had my Serbu BFG-50 in the safe for almost two years now, so I figure its time to get some glass on her and take her out.... Looking for suggestions across the budget range for glass for a 50 BMG.

I will be shooting at 100 yards (with friends locally, for fun) and out to 1000 so something with Variable magnification seems to be a good fit. Big fan of Leupold and other bright optics... willing to save up for quality.

Lemme know!

Wow... underwhelmed at the response. Jeeze, I know I haven't been terribly active here... but no replies at all?

Do I have food stuck in my teeth or something?

Guess I missed your post.:uhoh:

There's the two standards, Nightforce & Leupold.

Barrett has been selling their rifles in a package deal with Bushnell Elite scopes on them. You can also try SWFA's ELITE line of scopes and or the Tasco Super Sniper line. The best words of caution that I can give you are this, check the warranty and the Co.'s customer service. If either of those aren't up to par skip them! I would take a crappy scope and a Co. with great service over a great scope and crappy customer service.

I know for sure NF & Leupold have great service, have used both before. I even had the NF tech call me and ask questions and answer a couple I had.:)

Don't get a Super Sniper. My old BFG went through one in less than 20 rounds. On the lighter 50s (lighter meaning under 30 pounds). You need a stronger scope. So look to the IOR Valdadas, Leupolds and higher end scopes.

Nothing about 50's are cheap.

i didn't see your post either, sven

the swarovski fixed 10x on my barrett m95 is pretty sweet. my dad put a very expensive atn scope on his surbu about 2 yrs ago and it broke it fast.

one thing i'd consider, but stop short of recommending, is the super-cheap barska scopes. they're like looking through mud compared to quality glass on leupold/zeiss/etc BUT they have reticles etched into the glass, so i doubt they'll be prone to the typical problems encountered when shooting 50s.

and hey, for $119 with free shipping, it's hard to go wrong

(note, i'm not 100% sure that this particular scope is etched, just what i was told)

right now I have a bushnell on mine, to break in the barrell. The scope has a lifetime waranty so I don't really care about it. when I get the money in a few months I will have a Nightforce NXS 5.5x22x56 with a NP/R2 recticle. I can't wait to get it! My gun weighs 38 pounds btw.

Skip the ATN's also. They are fine on 308's and 223's but on a 50 cal, the failure rate is pretty darn high.

Much cheaper in the long run to buy good glass. Broke at least six scopes with my LAR before finding that out, I could have had the better scope for less money in the first place. 50BMG shooting ain't cheap no matter how you look at it.
