Scopeless

My pre-war Winchester model 70 does not have a scope

Nor does mine........

My winchester 30-30, my Marlin 35 remington, and 450 Marlin will never have a scope, and my shotguns as well.

No scopes on the Garand, muzzleloaders, shotguns or handguns. All the rest are fair game.

I certainly won't be attaching a scope to my SKS or any of my shotguns.

I have a Henry 44 Mag lever gun and could not see putting a scope on it. I did however put a Tang sight on it. It has a peep of course and helps me a lot with sight picture. I keep the buck horn sight set for 44 special and the tang for Magnums. I don't know why but I see more clearly through the peep sight. I am 52 and have had very bad eyes from youth.

My two pistol caliber carbines will stay irons only. Certain mil-type rifles don't lend themselves well to adding optics. The M1 and M1A as well as the AK family come immediately to mind.

Saying that combat rifles shouldn't have optics is old thinking. Modern combat arms used by western powers almost universally are designed to mount optics and are issued with optical sights to the soldiers that carry them.

Currently nothing has an optic of any kind, and I'm wondering why I bought this silly red-dot that isn't right on anything I have.

My muzzle loader. Black powder guns do not need scopes. Modern inlines, I'd scope those, but the more classic looking ones, not gonna happen.

That is going to have to change, however, since my eyes have gotten too old to properly use the Irons

Been there done that, its why I consider myself a connoisseur of cheap scopes

It don't take state of the art optics to help out 60+ year old eyeballs.

I don't think a scope looks right on an AK, but I need something if I'm going to hit anything. In general I prefer red dots to scopes, and these can be very small.

I use scopes on most of my hunting guns. I have 3 rifles and a shotgun for deer hunting. Only my Marlin 336C 35 Rem. doesn't have a scope. It has XS Ghost Ring Sights on it. Generally scopes work better for me.

CZ 452 Lux in .22WMR. Sights are too nice to cover up and the balance is just right without a scope.

Also my CZ Scout in .22lr, it's so tiny that even a 3/4" scope looks out of place. it has nice open sights too.

Come to think of it, only my 30-30 barrel for my Handi rifle has a scope (4X) and that's only because the I broke the rear sight. Everything else is open sights or peep sights.

Most of my rifles wear receiver sights. Plus one tang.

I don't own a long gun that i wouldn't put a scope on, BUT! I don't have all of my long guns scoped.

I've carried my "go to gun" many a mile without the scope on, but it gives me the instant option to put it on. I carry the scope in a pocket on my pack, and it's VERY fast to pull it out, hook the "feet" in the scope base on the gun,



pushing/rotateing the scope down,



and it quickly locks into place,



And ALWAYS goes back to being sighted in perfectly!



I have two scopes for my "go to" gun, both sighted in perfectly,

I've always said that I wouldn't scope any of my milsurps, but curiosity got the better of me and I did buy a clamp-on scope mount for one of my K-31's just to see what she could really do off the bench. I was impressed. Those are very accurate rifles.

Me, I just like irons, especially in the woods. I'm a big fan of aperture sights. I certainly don't fault others for what they do with their own guns, but some rifles just don't look right with a scope.
