Scoping a Marlin / Ruger Lever

I didn't buy it for a levergun but one I've been impressed with is an old Lyman All-American 2.5x I found on Ebay a while back. Put it on a Traditions .50cal muzzleloader I got for cheap. It's a good scope.

I shouldered my Marlin 1894 after adding the Nikon scope in a high mount and decided I wanted a better scope on a lower mount. So I ordered a Leuopold 1.5-4X with a "pig hunting" reticle, and mounted it using a low-profile mount.

I like the result, and I am particularly impressed by the optical quality of this scope. And I like the reticle a lot. Kudos to Leupold.

I have a 1-5x24 Burris XTR ii on my Maydoan Marlin 45-70. I'm under 40 but my eye sight isn't good at all without correction and astigmatism makes a red dot more like a red fuzzy line. It's mounted on the factory rail the rifle came with in a set of Weaver Tactical rings, with the lever extension there's enough room to get my thumb under it to cock the hammer if needed. A LPVO and the mid range thumpers just go together like chocolate and peanut butter. 20231208_130219.jpg

I have a Leupold VXIII 1.5-4x20 on my Marlin from the 80s. The 1.5x power is low enough you feel like you are using iron or peep sights. And 4x is plenty for the short range 35Rem of the rifle. It is a great pairing that I will never break up as long as I own it. Not sure the base but it sits just above the barrel with no room whatsoever for see through rings. Which I prefer.

I have this same scope on my Marlin 94, 44 mag. I like it a lot, but after being spoiled by another scope with firedot reticle, I’m starting to think I might want to upgrade to the VX3HD 1.5-5x mentioned earlier.
