I had a chance to take my new 10/22 TD out for a little shooting this past weekend, and I proved to myself that the stock sights just don't do it for my 50+ year old eyes. I had ordered a Nikon 4x32 rimfire scope to use on the gun, but once I got the scope it was immediatly evident that it was much too large. I didn't bother to actually mount it, but its obvious that the buttstock half of the gun would not fit in the case with the large Nikon on it. :cuss:

So, before I spend any more money, I thought I'd ask for any suggestions for good scopes for the TD? The Nikon is a bit over 11 inches long, and I'm thinking something at least a couple inches shorter would be ideal. I'd like a decent scope, the Nikon cost me around $100 so something in that price range would be nice. Any ideas? :D

Thanks!

I have the exact same problem with the Nikon 4x32 scope, rifle doesn't fit in the bag with the scope on it.. I'm looking for more of a compact scope without spending a lot...

I was able to get acceptable groups with mine with the factory irons. I had not thought about a scope, but may look at a red dot sight.

Funny, I tried to mount a Nikon 4x32 on mine and couldn't, either. I held up a Burris compact to it, and it looked like it would fit, as would a Weaver 1x3.

I am a "Set it and forget it" kinda guy. I thought about a QD setup of some sort, but figured I would rather have the $$ in better glass than the mount.

You cant get more bullet proof than a Dednutz one piece mount anyway. My Leupold is right at 9.5 inches, and fits in the bag perfectly. Any longer than that and you will have problems.

I love my Nikon scope on my wood stock model, but for my Takedown, I currently have a 4x shotgun scope that allows it to fit in the bag;

I'm very happy with the Warne QD's I have. AR15 Grendel and a AR-10. Return to same slot on the Picitinny rail, press rings forward in slot, tighten and you well be within -.5 moa of zero.

Have you considered using a older Weaver steel tube, like a K2.5 or K4. These are shorter with smaller bells.

I hear ya

Md, I hear what you are saying, I'm the same way with my 50+ year old eyes.....they don't always focus on what I want the too.
I have two suggestion's. 1) Nikon M-223 1-4 Point Blank Reticle. I use one on my Smith and Wesson M&P 15/22. Love it, when I get the chance to shoot it. It seems that everyone else loves it as well. We set up reactive shooting course with steel targets and the fun begins. 2) would be our new P-223 3x Carbine scope. I have not used one of these in the field yet as they are literally flying off store shelves so there are not any left overs to send me. I mounted this compact scope on a number of rilfes at Shot in Jan. and it is truly a compact scope and by utilizing Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program you can get more distance out of your 22LR. Both of these scopes are significantly shorter then what you have now and I believe will meet your requirements. There is a big Promo. going on for 2 more days that both of these scopes are included in so you may be able to get a free mount even though you do not need one at this time.
Drop me a note if I can answer any questions for you?
