Im hoping this is the right section as i couldnt find anything else close that would encompass this discussion.
Ill try and keep it short but detailed, But my life has been turned upside down and now i need to start over. But i never got the chance like i do now to do it my way.
About one month ago my 66 year old dad who has mental issues, Medical issues and thought that alcohol would help him medically, Made a huge error of judgment.
I take care of him and my mother as a caregiver even tho i have my own issues mentally ive been able to live threw after a breakdown about 15 years ago. But the worse they have become the lower its dragged me down, But they are my parents and i wanted them taken care of in their own home.
Anyhow during a heated discussion/Just words my dad pulled out his cocked and locked 9mm and pointed it at me telling me "This is who your dealing with now". My mind was blown away even tho my 1911 was in arms reach next to me.
All i could think was "Call 911", Picking up my weapon never entered my head. Oddly that surprised me as i would have thought i would have defended myself first.
Yes its my dad, But its a loaded gun pointed at me.
Thats over and hes about to be released from jail but most likely turned over to the VA for mental and medical help.
But as it stands the courts want us separated and have a protection order against him. I wont keep a man from his home so ill leave when he is ready to come back.
Who will take care of my mom who is in a hospital bed is my biggest worry, But she wont leave my dad.
So im about to be homeless, But ive been preparing for it.
Ive sold many hobby items on ebay that would only go down in value and only take up space in my car and be hard to sell and turn into cash when needed.
I kept all my guns and knife collection and my many diamond earrings and small amount of gold. Those will be items of last resort when cash is gone.
Ill have $2000-$2500 in cash on the first of the month.
My car is in decent shape and should have no issues making the trip from Ohio to where ever which my be 800 miles or more.
I know all this info isnt needed, But i dont want to be stuck with something stupid i over looked. Im disabled and have a steady guaranteed income and pension, But im not living LARGE either. I have to save for everything i buy.
3-4 years ago I had taken several trips to "Deals Gap" AKA as the "Tail of the Dragon" and just loved the area and people of the south. Small town life only, NEVER medium to large towns and cities. I like the hills and no flat land and want a place with a low cost of living.
So that leaves TN,NC,SC and possibly AR even tho ive never been there. I just don't want excessive heat in the summers like FL and LA have. I don't know the topography of these states except for TN which i know is half flat and half hills. And id like to be inland and away from the Ocean and tourist areas like Gatlinburg.
Im thinking ill make the drive and get close to where i want to be and then borrow Internet hot-spots and search Craigslist for rooms to rent and people needing room mates. I can camp and sleep in my car to save money and not stay in hotels.
I know the Smokey Mts may be a hard place to find a good living arrangement due to its tourist locations. But i do love the area. Other than that i dont know much else to look at.
KY could be a place i look at, But they have some similar rough winters like we do in Ohio. And i have Family in southern WV so id rather avoid that area also. Its not that i dont like my family, Its that i want my peace and left alone.
So if you know of a smallish town or area i should look at please post any info you can help me with.
Also on cash, Should i keep my valuables like guns, knives and jewelry as they are or sell them and have the cash on hand? As i can always buy new stuff later.
