OK,
So i took my Kahr PM9 to the range today. Got back home, cleaned the living Jesus out of it, and loaded it with Federal Ammo.
Now I know the primers are sealed on the ammo. I can see that little transparent "glue" around the primer edge. But what about the bullet / brass contact points? The brass has a rim of tiny dents running just a tiny bit below the point where the brass ends and bullet starts (SEE ATTACHED PICS). Is that a clamp point where they sort of "fused" the bullet and brass together? If not, is there a sealant between the bullet and the brass?

Also, do you know other ammo brands that are sealed?
I know Remington Gold Saber is. Any other?

The tight fit between the case mouth and bullet serves as sealing for almost anything but penetrating oils. I believe I have seen some European-made ammo with case mouth sealant, but too much of it can cause headspacing or chamber fouling problems, since the case mouth must be sharp and square to butt up against the chamber shoulder. The ring/indentation around the case is called a cannelure. Some brands of ammo have it, some do not. It acts (I think) as a travel stop to keep the bullet from completely "telescoping" into the case and has nothing to do with mouth/bullet sealing.

The crimp is probably sufficient on handgun ammo to stop all but your typical daily underwater SCUBA incursion and slowly rising out of the water like on navy SEAL ads. I don't recall seeing sealant on handgun ammo very often.

Relax. That's just a crimp to keep the bullet from going farther into the case. Nothing to worry about. There's no 'seal on any commercial factory bullet.
When you get that far, just reload 'em.

If you want the rounds sealed for your underwater ops, just use clear nail polish. Works when I invade the neighbor's pool - nude, drunk, with my Kabar in my mouth and Glock 20 in hand.

LOL!

Watch the humor, though. You may have just sent 50 lurking fence sitters running for the hills. ;)

What about the bullet? Dont store your ammo below the local waterline... any noob knows that...

OK, now I know who was in my pool last night.
