Second Amendment: CBS46News

Surprised CBS which I consider left leaning produced a segment like that.

That was a very good presentation. Since so many politicians have no idea what's in the constitution, they should be mandated to view this video as Class 101 on the 2nd amendment.

I'm also pretty shocked that this was on a major network news program.

I'm really surprised to see intelligence coming from a major news org. Pretty darn refreshing.

Without the 2nd amendment, we are subjects, not citizens....

I doubt that it was actually CBS. The presentation was by WCGL-TV Atlanta. That would be a CBS affiliate, not necessarily the parent CBS. But it was a good presentation.

A very truthful presentation. Unfortunately it will be ignored by any progressive already set in their anti-second amendment paradigm.

We need steady doses of this type of psa throughout the country. It should not be a foreign idea to any American otherwise the concept fails it's intended purpose. Each able bodied (and mind) citizen should understand their responsibility to protect the country from within. Patriotic citizens are being drowned out by an apethetic and watered down populous that are either too lazy to care, dependent on govt, or migrated from countries that dont have liberty.

The video will probably be met with jeer, laugh, mock, scoff, and sneer by the Party faithful.

Don't you realize that modern day America is a land of goodwill, charitableness, and leaders who are filled with benevolence toward their fellow citizens?

No need for guns when you will always have the option to file a lawsuit or cast a vote to redress a grievance or wrong, eh?

Fine work by CBS46 in Atlanta. We need more informative articles of this nature on the local/regional reporting level.

Thanks to the OP for sharing.

Presidential candidate Ben Carson showed a lot of moxie last month in stating the fundamental purpose of the Second Amendment in this national CBS News video

Yokel. That was a good find. I am glad to see Ben Carson explain the real reason for the 2a. It stumped the 3 antis. All 3 were prodding him until he calmly corrected them about muskets and informed them that the intent was to prevent tyranny that has plagued so many people in other countries. That was good air time and a great response from a real candidate that grew up in Detroit and Boston. His previous comments sounded more like jersey boys christie/trump but he has been educated and now sounds more like constitutionalist Rand Paul. Once all the candidates on both sides talk like Ben, we are ok.

Point of clarification

When the Founding Fathers were framing the Constitution and the BoR, WHO was the "militia"?

If memory serves me correctly, wasn't the militia actually every "able-bodied male", some as young as 14, that could shoulder and use a firearm and defend the fledgling country?

While we may not "need" a militia in that sense any more, what with the National Guard and the "standing army" we have now with our current military levels, I think the reporter is wrong in his assessment that the 2A doesn't mean an "individual right". The original militia WAS every able-bodied male and, in a few instances, some women fought alongside their men.

So I DO believe it is an "individual right" as the individual is still "the militia".
