Opinions guys. A buddy of mine has a 720 I've been trying to dwindle out of for a while. Well, today during a BS session he offered to swap me the 44 for the Bicentennial Security Six I picked up the other day. They're about equal in condition and I no longer have anything chambered in 44 special. I have other 357's. I've offered cash but he won't sell a gun, trade only. Thanks folks.

Is there a question other than you not trying to laugh in his face?

200th Year of American Liberty Security Six is an absolute collectable classic.

Rossi? Don't make me laugh.

Keep what you have.

The Brazilian K frame .44spl revolvers (Rossi 720, taurus 441/431) are really cool and I would really like one. But not at the expense of a Security Six.

Ruger is a better gun, 44 Special is a MUCH better cartridge, IMO. But then I hate 357 Magnums.

On Gun Broker the 720's seem to sell for about $100 less than the Security Six (not the Bicentennial).

This.

I'm sure the Rossi will do the job, but the one's I've held felt pretty cheap. The Security Six is a classic that will only increase in value. Not sure the same could be said about the Rossi.

I figured as much. I'll keep looking for another big bore. You never know, I may stumble into a great deal on a 24 or 696.

Got both. Wouldn't sell either one. That said, my stainless 4" 200th year Ruger is easily worth twice what the Rossi is. The older Rossis are darn good guns. Have 3, a 6" 22, a compared 357 and the 44. All way better than what they're importing today.

The 720's are cool and all, but the security six is an all around better gun for almost anything. Fortunately I have both, so I don't need to choose, but if I could only keep one, it would be the Ruger.

This, just buy a 720 on gunbroker if you want one.

Save your money and WAIT.

Sooner or later you will find a good S&W .44 Special.

Expensive? Yes. Worth the wait, YES.

Don't be one of those 'I got to have it NOW' people.

You will run into a N frame like..

629-2 .44 magnum Mountain Gun and S&W 625-1 .45 ACP or

attachment.php

A 629-1 .44 Magnum or a wonderful Lew Horten 24 3 inch .44 (and yes I have that to but no pic!)

But if you blow your money early you will regret it.

AND KEEP THAT RUGER SECURITY SIX!!!

The Rossi will look good and feel good as long as you don't use it much.

The Security Six just gets better the more you shoot it.

I love that 625 and 45 auto is definitely easier to find in a pinch...Deaf, you're an enabler.

The Security Six is one of the finest all-around revolvers ever made. Surely you didn't take him up on his outrageous offer!?

Keep the Ruger, shop on the auctions for the 720. I have "covert"720 and a super nice speed six. I would not part with either. The speed six is the better of the two that's for sure.

Keep your Security a Six. The Rossi is much weaker. It won't take stiffer loads when needed. Heavier loads will shoot the Rossi loose in no time.

And Tar_lan...

You can always go the lay-away route to buy a real good S&W .44.

Just a thought.

Deaf... the enabler!

When I first read the title I thought "In a second, I take a Security Six for ANY Rossi". I didn't realize you'd be giving up the Ruger.

In that case: nope.

I actually have a bicentennial model, i assume that their is only a value difference if it is in collector condition?

And.... Don't trade the Security Six, like everyone else said.

I'd keep the Ruger too, yet still keep after him for that Rossi. I like the 720 as a light weight big bore on days I feel like carrying a wheelgun. My 686 has a very nice, slicked up trigger. But my Rossi's trigger, out of the box, is even better. In the long run, your Ruger should be worth more, for what that's worth. But even more, it will take a lot more shooting that the light weight 720.
