I finally picked up my new Colt AR15 A4 this morning and right away put a Trijicon ACOG model TA11H-G on there. (223 horseshoe reticle, green)

I've never used an ACOG before but I like it. Feels nice and I think I'll pick up targets quickly. My only problem is I'm questioning which one I bought and wonder if another would be better for this particular rifle. I see the model # TA31RCO-A4CP is specifically made for the A4 20" setup.

Am I better off with that model? Are its BDC lines going to be more accurate? Or am I just overthinking things as usual and this one will be fine?

If I'm not mistaken, when I was in the Army the M16A4 RFI included something very similar to, if not the same, as the TA31RCO-A4C. So long as you aren't worried about getting into the "as issued" set up it should work just fine. The chevron has an advantage over the dot as it will subtend less and provide a more refined point of aim.

Congrats on your new rifle!

I originally had been looking at that model, which apparently is the one the military uses for the A4's. (There's another for the M4.) I ended up going with the TA11 though because of the longer eye relief and the horseshoe reticle was pleasing to me.

I probably shouldn't dwell too much on the bdc subtensions. Sure Trijicon has set them up, but the minute you use different ammo from what they're calibrated for it all goes out the window. Chances are this thing won't be shooting out past a couple hundred yards anyway either.

Don't sweat it. You have a set to be proud of. Happy shooting. I have a 20" Windham with a 4-12 scope that I use for distances 100 meters and out. A 20" fixed stock is a whole bunch of fun.

Just curious. what made you go with that combo?
