ORLANDO, Fla. - The victim of a home invasion late Sunday night fought back against his attackers.

The attack happened at the Pine Harbour Apartments near state Road 408 and Dean Road.

"Several suspects attempted to break into a residence here that was occupied by several people at the time," Orange County Sheriff's Office Cmdr. Rick Luckey said.

But once inside the apartment, one of the residents quickly turned the tables on the intruders.

"One of the homeowners grabbed a rifle, shot at the suspects. Apparently, one of the rounds actually struck a suspect," Luckey said.

The intruders fled from the second-floor unit down a staircase into a parking lot and fled in a vehicle to a local hospital.

The intruder who was shot died at the hospital.

"We've heard about a couple of break-ins recently. It kind of got me a little scared. It definitely has me a little scared for sure," resident Daniel Sagendorf said.

Investigators said the two other people who went to the hospital are considered persons of interest in the case. At least one of the residents of the apartment was also interviewed by authorities because of a possible relationship with the assailants. To comment on this story, send an e-mail to Jeff Lennox.

Hmmm - so in the last couple of days out of four shootings, 50% involved armed defense which thwarted the attacks.

1 in Omaha.
2 in Colorado
1 in Orlando.

Those Brady's are right. Guns never are involved in self defense.

Off-Duty Officer Takes Down Armed Robber

POSTED: 2:26 pm EST December 9, 2007
UPDATED: 2:42 pm EST December 9, 2007

TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- Police are investigating an attempted robbery in Titusville that left the alleged attacker struggling to survive.

Titusville police said an off-duty Kennedy Space Center SWAT member shot Barry Noetzel at the Winn Dixie on North Singleton Avenue and Dairy Road Saturday night.

According to police, Noetzel was wearing a mask and standing in the Winn Dixie parking lot with a shotgun.

Police said there were customers inside the store when Noetzel allegedly attempted the robbery.

According to police, the off-duty SWAT officer was entering the store as the robbery was in process, and went back to his car to get his gun.

Police said he confronted Noetzel as he was leaving through an emergency exit of the store, and shot him in the chest. Noetzel was airlifted to a local hospital in good condition.

Police said he is being charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a shotgun and a number of other offenses.

After being treated, he will be taken to the Brevard County Jail with no bond, police said.

Oh wait! That's two in Florida. (Why the SWAT guy wasn't carrying is beyond me. He recovered though and did the right thing)

!!!!!!!!

Most people would think that's good shot placement. Still didn't kill him. Apparently didn't even put him in that much danger (good condition generally means he'll recover soon).

Perhaps the off-duty officer was wearing a pistol, but went back to his car for a rifle/carbine? But if the officer used a rifle/shotgun it make the part about the perp surviving in "good condition" a bit more remarkable:

and shot him in the chest. Noetzel was airlifted to a local hospital in good condition

Would be speculation, but yes, always possible.

But good boys and girls in the media don't report things like that.

The good news is the assnut got shot by a good guy.

I wonder if Paul Helmke will write a blog about that?

that area of orlando is a fairly rough area... i used to deliver pizza there... at least 2 of my former co-workers were robbed in one of the apartment complexes on that stretch of road... wasnt uncommon for my senses to go on alert in those areas due to the problematic nature of the populace there...

Orlando is a funny area. It is one of those places where the ghetto merges with old school rural Florida. Also you have an exceptionally large public university which means lots kids. You see a lot of these defensive shootings against home invaders. More than a few involve drug dealers and meth labs. Not all though.
