Police: Stripper-Involved Death Was Self-Defense

POSTED: 6:28 pm EDT October 17, 2007
UPDATED: 7:41 am EDT October 18, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Authorities are investigating a twist in the shooting on Tuesday night involving a stripper.

Orange County investigators said the stripper was part of a setup to rob the people who hired her.

One of the intended victims shot and killed a man who detectives now say was there to rob him, and had a gun of his own.

The exotic dancer was invited to a private home, but it seems she was part of a larger, Internet-based scheme to rob the two men who invited her, investigators believe.

"It's very weird," neighbor Maria Fernandez said.

Area residents first became concerned after they heard the shooting was the result of an argument over an exotic dancer.

"People have parties, and they have these strippers come to the house in your own neighborhood. You know, i'ts like, unbelievable," Fernandez said.

Then authorities discovered a new twist in the case on Wednesday afternoon.

"You have two individuals that were just looking for a night of entertainment, unfortunately, they called in the wrong act," Sgt. Alan Lee of the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

Homicide detectives said the two men had responded to an ad for an exotic dancer on Craigslist.

"A lot of times there is inherent risk with that. A lot of times these ads, it's a setup for you to be robbed," Lee said.

Detectives said the woman went to the house first to scope it out in order to determine for her accomplice if it was worth robbing.

The dancer's accomplice showed up with a gun and the homeowner returned fire with his own weapon and killed the man.

Authorities said neither of the two residents of the home will be charged.

"They were acting in self-defense," Lee said.

Detectives have been working to try to figure out the identity of the man who was shot to death. They strongly suspect the man has a criminal record.

The police are encouraging victims of similar crimes to contact them directly.

With that title, I just couldn't resist.....

While there is nothing illegal about hiring a stripper for a home performance, it is a questionable activity. It has long been my observation that if one does not engage in questionable or illegal activity, one vastly reduces one's chances of being a crime victim.

if by questionable you mean in conflict with Judeo-Christian ethics, i agree with you, but i think that associating sexual immorality with violent crime is not fair.

No mention in this article about how bad the facts were totally screwed in the first account of the event

The first story to come out was that the "manager" had sent the wrong girl and the customers were angry about it

Also no mention of the alleged three or four other men that accompanied the manager to the home or the female that was in the customer's party

Something to think about

Lots of shady people and scammers lurking on Craig's List. Use at your own risk as everyone in the story found out.

craigslist TOS prevents all firearm transfers

Progressives like Craig Newhall (owner of CL) have no problem with ads that have outright prostitution.
Children have been sold into prostitution on CL, illegal alien girls from asia are marketed like meat on CL.
Yet the progressives imagine themselves as the leaders of womens rights.
police state progressives are mentally ill.

There is an old saying, and I don't remember to whom it is attributed:

There is no good; there is no bad. But thinking makes it so.

I wonder if they would apply that statement to the dead guy? There are just places one ought not go, things one ought not do. Why? Risk. Just risk.

Could be, but sometimes a Big Dawg gets an itch that just needs scratchin'.

Biker;)

as far as i understand she should be. not at all sure but it seems like she was part of conspiring and so its her fault the other guy died.

not sure, its just what ive read on THR :p

And you people say there are no firearms on Craigs List.

I guess it depends on your area. Since the majority of "prohibited" firearms posts are tagged for deletion by other users before moderators even find them, it's more likely that they'll get deleted faster in areas with more general anti-gun ideas. I've tried to post firearms for sale on the local craigslist, and they they seem to get deleted within minutes.

Seems as though the boys got a different bang for their buck than they had planed. Why they didn't learn about what can happen with strippers from the rugby team crap is beyond me. Guess some guys got to learn the hard way.

They're certainly selling guns on cl but it is against the TOS and they are promptly yanked when reported......
Unlike prostitution........ craig is a "progressive pimp"

And you people say there are no firearms on Craigs List.

So here we are less than 24 hours after you posted that list and all those links say "ad flagged for removal" and no longer work.

Bill Shakespeare, I think from Hamlet, but he used a slightly different wording. Wow, strippers and Shakespeare in the same thread.

You will now be returned to your firearm related program...

Call it Karma then.;) Certain things do expose one to increased risks (natural-disease etc. and man-made)...perhaps the fact that many of these certain things are against the teachings of most (if not all ) major religions is just coincidence?

Ah...worry too much about dying and you never live.

What's the point?

Biker:)

What I like about Washington and Nevada: You can take your CCW into the, ah, shoe show with you. Of course, if you're getting a really good dance, the "dancer" will bump into it and think you're a cop. And that's the end of the really good dance.

Ah...worry too much about dying and you never live.
Biker, on of these days I'm going to toodle over to Idaho and buy you a beer!
