I own 3 automatics and 4 revolvers. I'm a revolver guy for the most part, but acknowledge that bottomfeeders have a well deserved place in self defense.

My first gun ever was a Glock 21. I still have it. I almost never shoot it. I have an additional 400corbon barrel for it, an additional 2-piece steel recoil rod for it, 2 holsters for it and 6 magazines. I reload for 45acp and 400corbon.

I also have a 1911 that I shoot more often. I don't have any 400corbon accessories for it, but can get a barrel easily enough if I want. Now that I have a 357 and 44mag, I don't see much of a reason to use the 400corbon platform.

Then, I have an XD9. I love shooting this auto.

I'm considering selling the G21 and buying an XD45. In comparison between one another, my XD9 points more naturally than my G21 (the G21 points high, then I have to adjust). I am also very hesitant to let the glock sit in my nightstand/truck/holster/wherever with a round in the chamber, but don't have the same level of apprehension with the XD9.

What do you guys think? There are 2 things that are stopping me from selling this gun:

1. It's my first gun.
2. I'm not certain I want to sell ANY gun. Nothing wrong with buying more guns, but selling any is kinda dumb. But I don't really want more autos. I just wish my G21 were an XD45. I might shoot it more. That and if my autos were of the same design, I would shoot 9mm and 45acp consistently, interchangeably. Not that I shoot either gun poorly now, I just need half a magazine to adjust when changing between the two.

Mr. azredhawk44,
I don't feel that I can actually post an answer to the poll. However Iwould say that, I have a Glock 21 and I like it very much. My son has an XD 45 the 4" Service Model and while I have not fired it yet, I like it also. Other than the obvious smaller grip and the additional grip safety, I see no difference in the two guns. I understand in a manner of speaking the Glock is while in battery at half cock while the Springfield is fully cocked. Both guns for me instinctively point the same in that to raise them to target the sights are dead on with the line of sight, again that is for me. My G21 is dead on POA / POI. I would not trade my G21for his XD45 and if I owned his XD 45, I would not trade it for a Glock 21. I have considered purchasing the 5" Tactical Model but I doubt that there is an iotas difference in the performance of the three guns. If you favor the the XD45 over the G21 then, trade or buy an XD. IMHO it is six of one and a half dozen of another. Do what makes you happy.

Don't do it man!

I strongly suggest you shoot a XD45 before selling off anything you might regret letting go....;)

Selling a gun can be tough, especially if it's your first one. (How in the heck did you start out with a G21, anyway??) I sold my first one, a Colt .22 revolver, a long time ago. I still wish I had it.

That being said... I have now owned both, and believe me, you should try the XD. I now have one, and would never consider a Glock again. BUT, try it first. It might not be for you. The guy I got the XD from just wasn't comfortable with it (lucky for ME!).

Steelharp-

I go backpacking often.

One time, I was asleep in my tent and was awakened by a mountain lion tripping over a tent line and screaming at me. I prayed to all the gods of large calibered weapons to save me, and I would purchase one of their talismans in return.

I obviously lived through the night, and a few months later I thought about what I wanted. I knew I would be a bad shot to begin with, but still needed a gun that could kill a critter (I have also seen bear a couple of times).

I didn't know anything about velocity... only bullet size. I also wanted as many shots as possible. Add to the a novice's knowledge of reliability and the sage advice of Tommy Lee Jones in "US Marshalls", and I ended up with a Glock 21.

After learning more about velocity and power, I converted the gun to 400corbon. After learning about sectional density and penetration, I got an sp101 in .357. After learning about gun weight, size and recoil, I got a ruger Redhawk in 44mag.

Who knows what I'll get next. But it's been fun so far.:p

Don't sell it. You'll kick yourself in the britches later, if you do.

Think of a firearms purchase this way. . . .

You don't want to replace a firearm. . . you want to supplement your firearms.

Don't do it. The G21 is a great weapon, and it's your first.

But above all, it's a great weapon.

For my needs, the XD45 outclasses the Glock 21 in almost all areas...

...However, you may not like the XD45. Different strokes for different folks, ergonomics and other intangables differ for everybody. Try the XD45 first. If it works better than the G21 for you, sell your G21. No reason to keep a gun that you do not use.

Keep the G21 and get the XD also. See which you prefer. REMEMBER, once you sell a pistol , you will regret it later.

Don't sell it if you don't have to. But if in order to get what you really want, you have to sell it, then go for it. A great keeping point is the 400 barrel.

I'm not one to suggest selling your first gun :( But, if it's not seeing much use and you've found an alternative that you will shoot more, I'd sell it...too many choices out there to just settle!

I took my gen 2 Glock 21 into a new to me gun shop today to consign and they wouldnt even let me.They said there was "no market" for used "old frame Glocks".Im quite sure they would have gladly given me $100.00 for it however.:cuss:

Trust me the xd is all hype and nothing to back it up.Stick with the peice that has proven itself throughout time and is still preferred by the best. The xd will never out perfom the glock and should never be replacing your glock. The xd is going to be a new paper weight in a few years.A very expensive one.The xd ban wagon will pass and it will be back to normal.
