I really want a .458 SOCOM upper and already have a lower ready to go. The issue is funds... I can't afford to spend 700-900 on another firearm.
I have three rifles I can sell to fund the 458: 1. Remington 597 in .22 WMR, 2. Savage Axis w/ SS barrel in .223 Rem, 3. Savage Axis w/ SS barrel in .30-06. Combined sales of these will fund the SOCOM.
The SOCOM can effectively replace the '06 and, in this area, I don't really need anything between a powerful .22 cal pellet rifle, which I have, and a .223 Rem. I have a nice AR in .223Rem/5.56NATO.
I MUCH prefer semi-auto and MUCH prefer modular designs so the .458 SOCOM is a no-brainer in that regard.
I'm fed up with overpriced rimfire ammo so unless I can buy WMR very soon for 20 cents per round then I don't want to keep the rifle.
What I like about the bolt-action rifles is their simplicity, reliability and durability. I'm not really a SHTF type but I do know bad things can and do happen... so reliability is of "some" concern.
Still... I REALLY want a .458 SOCOM that I can shoot suppressed, if and when I can afford the tax stamp and can.
I'll need to buy reloading gear for the SOCOM because I can't afford $2-4 per round for ammo so I'll need to add a little cash to the sales of the three rifles.
One last concern is that I like to use EXTREMELY common calibers... .223 Rem, .308 Win, .30-06, etc. and the '06 beats the 458 hands down. But... I WANT that .458!!
I'm sorry this is long-winded but...
WHAT WOULD YOU DO AND WHY?
