In case you haven't seen the thread down in the Trader Feedback forum, I should hopefully eventually have a preban Calico M100 here in lovely NY.

Thing is, I've been planning on going down to the Big E show in MA in October, and right now I hate that damn calico carbine and all the aggravation it's caused me to the point that I think I might take it to hock. Plus, close to the election and in a relatively upper-middle-class area, I figure I should be able to get my money right back out.

But, I just want to make sure MA doesn't have any particularly absurd laws. I know they have a NY style AWB that still respects prebans, and since I'm from out-of-state I should sell to or through a dealer obviously, but I wanted to know if there was anything else to know before I hop the border with a scary black .22 in my trunk.

It's Pre-Ban, so you should not have any problems from the sale in MA prespective.

The only real issue is that you will be in possession of a gun with no MA license. Make sure it's unloaded and locked in the trunk, and FOPA theoretically will protect you.

I don't believe you can sell a gun in this state unless you are a Mass resident with a firearm license. Otherwise under Mass Law it is an illegal gun. FOPA only protects you when traveling through a state, not if you stop and try to sell a gun. But double check this with GOAL.

It's pre-ban status is fine in MA, however the magazine has to be pre-ban as well.

FTF transactions are legal, but both seller and buyer must have a valid Class B LTC (or Class A LTC).

And since the show is in MA, there's the heightened risk that the goons of our very firearms unfriendly AG will be keeping a close eye on things.

Guess I'll hock it in NY, if I even get the damn thing by next weekend. Fortunately, lately all I've been buying at gunshows is bayonets and ammo, and I'm mostly going out there 'cause I've got a hot date.

Why not hold onto it and see if you maybe still want it when the bad memories fade? I have one, and it's fun.

Yours giving you anything other than paperwork aggravation?

Byte, I live in NYS. And horse, no, the damn thing is making me want to beat my head against a wall. It's not that serious a hangup or hiccup, but it's just given me a bad taste in my mouth- the new gun euphoria has long-since evaporated.

You're right, though, I should keep it. I got a great deal on it, and the delays aren't costing me money, just time.

The big thing is I wanted to have more than my usual portion of spending money for Big E, because it's supposed to be a neat big show, and toting a six-or-so hundred gun that's black and evil and would sell well is a good substitute for cash.

Guess I'll just stop at the bank and draw a couple hundred before the show.
