Can anyone tell me what is required by law to sell Black Powder ? I was told that one of the major things is the Powder Vault Design.

A SC gun shop owner on TFL named Hardy inquired about getting a license to sell black powder and was told by the ATF that he needed a powder magazine which would be subject to ATF inspection.

Hardy said:
Again--the ATF in Columbis, SC said pretty near quote: "You have to have a license. Your magazine will be inspected. You can only sell it out of that magazine that is registered to your physical place of biz. If you store it at your house, a barn, or whatever that is other than the place liscenced , you're breaking the law.

The major problem is your insurance. The storage is minor and apparently can be a plywood box with 3 padlocks on it and painted red with the text: EXPLOSIVES in white. My local store has theirs sitting in the main store near the guns.

If you sell black powder "kits", where the saltpeter is stored in seperate containers, and the other chemicals in the mix are stored either mixed together or seperately, then, you are not sellling Black Powder, or an explosive. What you are sellling is a collection of rather harmless household chemicals, that, when mixed together properly, and in the right porportions, can become Black Powder.

Sell unmixed, ungraded, BP Kits, and you don't need any of that federal nonesense at all.

where the saltpeter is stored in seperate containers you are not sellling Black Powder,
No, you are most certainly not selling black powder.

Making good usable black powder out of salt peter, charcoail, and sulfer is a science best left to the powder manufactures.

You will most certainly not be satisfied with anything you can make at home in a mixing bowl out of "parts"!

If you can find BP for sale anywhere in the state of Texas, you're a lucky man. :D Just shoot Pyrodex or 777 if you're not a flinter. If you flint your ignition, you'll be stuck with ordering it online and paying exorbidant hazmat fees or making your own. This is why I've yet to get a flinter.

Do you really think that you don't pay the hazmat fee if you buy black powder from a local dealer? Really?

Making black powder goes back centuries and centuries. There are hundreds of formula's and dozens of proven methodes for producing high grade black powder from very simple hand tools. There is no magic to it at all.

People who insist that only "certified professionals" are "qualified" to make powders of any kind are hopelessly mis-informed, or, they have some sort of hidden agenda to push the status quo. (I.E., they sell the stuff themselves and don't want the competition...)

The licensing required to actually make and sell black powders, is not complex, nor is it expensive. You can be certified to make, at home, your own line of cartridges, for an FFL fee of $30.00, or, become a dealer in guns and powders for only $200.00 in FFL fees.

These are not exorbitant fees, and need no degreed professional to fill out and receive.

Look for a new product release, sometime in August or September of the up and comming summer. My business partner and I will be offering High Quality, Professional Grade Black Powder kits and components, as well as chemical kits to produce your own percussion caps from ignitor material kits, and a number of accessories as well, such as precision cast pure lead, no addititves, round ball, conical, and mini-ball bullets. All sold under our company brand name of "Tripple Red X, XXX, Brand Black Powders". All of this, with less than a total cost of business start up of less than $5,000.00.

Go ahead, listen to the nay-sayers and ninny no-no's, waste your time listening to people who are always full of reasons why you can't do something positive to increase your freedom and wealth, instead of people who are trying to wake you up to the fact that none of this is magic, and ANYBODY can do this, and do this LEGALLY.

Sincerely,

Elvin Warrior... aka... David... "EW"

David I would like to buy your first five pounds of powder that you produce. I enjoied our visit last month. I should have a finished product to show you some time by Sept.

"You will most certainly not be satisfied with anything you can make at home in a mixing bowl out of "parts"!"

Especially if you do in a mixing bowl. But if you research some of the homemade BP threads on this forum, and follow the advice they give, you make make very satisfactory BP, and make it safely.

Dear Col Lemat,

You may have the first five pounds, as a thank you for all your advice and assistance with my LeMat project. Just let me know, what Fg or mix of Fg's you would like.

Pulp...

The biggest "trick" is in the grinding, or milling, the powder components must be very finely ground, to a fine dust, the best way of doing this is with a ball mill, millling for hours and hours...

Now... if some clever, determined, dedicated person out there, realized, that, all the other BP "Kits" offered by all the other pyrotech companies, deliver to you, poor grade charcoal, not willow or alder charcoal, but whatever crap they threw into the kiln from the scrapyard down the block, and they don't sublime (wash) the sulphur or the saltpeter first... Neither do they provide you with a finely milled dust, but a rather rough grainage....

So... if a clever person, offered "Ready to Mix" components, components pre milled, in a ball mill, for HOURS, so all the milling was already done ahead of time.... And then used, the CIA methode, mixing the components together wetted, with alcohol.... Well, the result would be a VERY HIGH GRADE of home made black powder without having to buy a $500.00 ball mill, or mix for hours and hours....

There, I just spilled the beans to you on how to make a fortune selling high grade BP kits...

What the hell... Competitors make for a fun market place !!!

Hope to see your product online soon !!!

Sincerely,

ElvinWarrior... aka... David, "EW"

Just looked close to 1,000 gr. sul + 3/4 full jar (500) gr char. Char needs more grinding.
If you have the LeMat book check out Pg. 39, 40 & 41.

Col LeMat,

The book is on my wish list at the moment, I have, undergone a number of expenses as of late, what with all the fees and charges involved with starting up a buisiness, the fictitous business name, the business license, the State Tax ID number, Federal EIN number, FFL's, and what nots... It seems half the country stands around with their palm out, wanting money from the other half of the country who actually work and produce something !!! LOL

Not that I am complaining mind you, I have never been happier in my life, I should have found a partner and gone into business for myself years and years ago....

Oh well... Better late than never !!!

And, sure, I could use your stuff to mix up a batch or two of BP !!!
