I used this tonight in an anti-gun debate.

"You think the second amendment protects hunting rifles only? Perhaps you're behind a hundred years on technology, but hunting rifles have seriously evolved since the days of the old Flint Locks. Why don't you perform a Google Image Search for 'Semi Auto Hunting Rifle' and come back to this debate better educated to proceed."

My favorite type of rebuttal for the "2A is for hunting" argument is this or similar:

"So in 1776 they put in the Bill of Rights that you're allowed to hunt to feed your family? That was the ONLY way to feed your family. They didn't gallop on over to McDonald's or Walmart to buy food. Maybe we should just amend it to say it is the right of the people to eat fast food and microwaveable TV dinners?"

Not much room for logic to combat that IMO.

So, based on this search, the term "semi auto hunting rifle" includes airsoft MP5s, percussion cap single shot pistols, Walther PPKs, Beretta shotguns, and suppressed P90s.

Yes because the founding fathers believed in hunting deer SO MUCH they made it the second amendment of the Constitution when building a new government.

Over the past half-century that I have been a gun owner, sports shooter, accumulator of curio and keepsake firerams and occasional hunter, I have been exposed to reams of anti-gun, anti-NRA, anti-hunting, anti-self-defense propaganda from folks for banning all guns and especially a sizeable number who loath and despise hunting.

So, they didn't have farming way back then?

And animal husbandry was well understood and practiced. They didn't HAVE to hunt for their food. It wasn't a necessity.
