Hello,

I learned to shoot on a S&W M19 and I think it has spoiled me as far as triggers go. The double-action pull is long but absolutely smooth and precise, and the single-action is light and crisp beyond description. I'd like to get a DA/SA semiauto and I am wondering; is a semiauto which can match the superb trigger of an older S&W revolver? I'd like a gun chambered in .45 ACP but I am flexible about the caliber.

Thanks,

The best DA pull I've felt on an auto was on a Sig, but it's still nowhere near as good as a nice S&W wheelgun.

My full size HK USP is in the DAO model and the trigger reminds me of my gp100. It might not be as sweet as your trigger, but it is a smooth DA pull every time.
My USP compact has the LEM trigger and it is even lighter.

I checked out a Sig 250, it has a very smooth DAO trigger, perhaps the best I've ever tried on an auto, quite similar to my S&W 19, 65 & 686+ Mtn Gun.
It's worth looking at, especially in .357Sig Auto.

Definitely +1 on Sig, for one not mentioned the striker-fired Kahr is pretty sweet - my experience is P9, but I've heard the triggers are all the same. Long, but very smooth.

Add another one for Sig coming the closest. As for this:
Glock trigger with NYI or NYII trigger spring is a possibility
Friend, do yourself a favor and shoot an old S&W or Colt and then see if you would say something as ridiculous as this again.

Ive got a 5946 and its DAO... the trigger on it is fairly good stock. Its no slick target wheelguns action, but not bad.

I own SIGs, Glocks, HKs, Walthers, Rugers, Smiths and frankly nothing quite measures up to a good double action revolver trigger and as for the single action fuhgetabboutit.

The Para light double actions are really smooth but too light to really feel like a revo. I guess I would say SIGs are the closest but they really don't compare IMO.

I used to own a Beretta 96 DAO Centurion. It had a great DA trigger and was dead accurate. Turn in department gun with enough range time to smooth it out. Traded it in on a 96 Inox for IDPA. Put a D spring in it and it shoots very well.

BERETTA is the best

I have carried and shot the double action triggers on BERETTA, H&K and SIG and the BERETTA DAO trigger was the best. I think if you can find one used, that the INS BERETTA Brigadier 96D had the best street trigger for DAO.
My SIG (not a LEM model) was noticeably heavier. The H&K is also very good, but I like the BERETTA the most.

I would try all three at a range or gun shop/show and see which one fits you best.

I find the DAO trigger very similar to a good SMITH & WESSON double action.

I got real lucky when I bought my Sig P220 as it had a great trigger right from the factory. The DA pull is as good as my Colt Python revolver but clean without any stack. Single action is around 4 lbs and is as good as my 1911's with trigger jobs. Breaks clean after a small amount of slack take up due to the DA system.

D.A. revolvers -- and true D.A.O. , "D.A.O." striker fired, and D.A./S.A. autos

I've been through all of the above, and D.A. revolvers are most like D.A.O. autos than they are D.A./S.A. (unless you were cocking your M19 for every shot except the first one). The smoothest "D.A.O." trigger is the striker fired Kahr Elite I.M.O., which is most like a D.A. revolver in that it is long and smooth with no skids or anything to feel before the break (unlike some striker fired actions), and it has a longer release to reset like a revolver. The elite trigger is found on all Kahr polymer, T models, M.K. and K models after 2005, and of course all elites.

That said, I'm with S.C., as I much prefer the D.A./S.A. of my P220. But if one must have a consistent pull from first to last, I would at least get a D.A.O. or striker fired "D.A.O." with a shorter reset (I.E. prefer GLOCK triggers to those of Kahr mostly for this reason). However, both of these attributes are unlike a revolver, if that is really what you seek (I.E. D.A./S.A. is also my preference in autos, but they are not as similar to a D.A. revolver as D.A.O. is, especially the Kahr "D.A.O." which is very similar)! But if so, in .45acp, I'd recommend the T.P. 45, and if you want all steel and are flexible in caliber, the T9 and T40 are nice too! B.T.W. your first instincts are right, so forget trying to replicate the revolver in an auto and get a P220 instead L.O.L. (joking)!

Friend, do yourself a favor and shoot an old S&W or Colt and then see if you would say something as ridiculous as this again.

Funny, because the G22 I shot with a NY1 had a long smooth double action-esque pull...somewhat reminicent of....oh....I don't know...a DAO revolver perhaps?

And since the thread title is "semi-auto with revolver like trigger", it's not too "ridiculous" to suggest it.

No more so than subjectivley claiming a Sig is the "closest". Based on what? Scientific testing? Quantifiable measurements? Yea...didn't think so.

I assumed we are all rational enough to understand that very few, if any, auto triggers would match the dreamy goodness of a nice old wheelgun, especially in SA, so I didn't figure that needed to be reiterated.

I guess I was wrong, friend.

Not going to happen(the mechanics of the actions won't allow for a similar feel). Whole different animals.

You could just go with a five pound trigger on a 1911. Whole different animal but you might just like it as well.

i totally agree with rellascout, the Sig DAK trigger system is revolver like. i have had a few Sigs with this trigger system and any Sig i buy now must be a DAK. i personally love the DAK trigger and i mostly shoot S&W wheelguns.

Glock triggers (stock form) or the Kahr triggers (ditto) work great for me and have nice smooth pulls that are moderately long without stacking.

Of course, I don't actually own either of those brands, for different reasons.

I have a S&W 1911 as well as a S&W Revolver in N, L, K.and J frame
as well as a newly acquired CZ 75B.

I wouldn't say ANY DA/SA or DAO is close to revolver like in the DA triggger pull, but the CZ 75B is pretty darn good for a service pistol DA
first shot. It however can't compare to a S&W - my k frame 617 is butter
smooth stock the N frame has the Master revovler Action job from S&W PC.
and that's the only reason it's better although it has more mass moving around than my K frame. THe J frame I have is coil spring but smooth and
I just like it better than the L frame 686 - imho S&W should have worked
on the L frame design longer because it isn't the same as a K frame the original DA medium frame from 1899.

CZ 75B - a trigger job by ANgus - replace the main spring from the stock 19 lb to 13 lbs but if you have light strikes go back up to 15 lbs, not that those values are what you are pulling but it's relative to how much the trigger pull is reduced. It's steady - the DA pull for a CZ 75 but no way is it
close to a DA revolver.... even the J frame. DIferrent leverages mechanically

The only thing on the market that is nearly identical to a S&W revolver are the Beretta "D" models, which are available in 9mm and .40 on the 92 frame, and in 9mm, .40, .357 Sig and .45acp on the Cougar frame. The trigger pull is full stroke like a revolver, and is smooth as glass.

The other DAO's fire from a partial cock, and will have shorter trigger pulls. Sig used to make a DAO full stroke version, but it has been replaced by the DAK, which has two different trigger pulls. The glock feels like you are tripping a mouse trap, as do most striker fired pistols.
