Seriously over hyped ammo? Instant death?

It's a BARNES 2 LEGGED VARMINT GRENADE:what:

A scheme no doubt cooked up by some whacked out prarie dog:eek:
to get back at us hunters:D

I guess we can start using 17 HMRs with VMax bullets on eachother now. Or even big game like a moose are something right.

If only it came in 12Gauge. I have been looking for something to deal "instant death" to a Grizzly Bear for a long time.

Wait! What if you had some 00 buck DRT ammo where each ball could instantly kill anything it hit? Then you could 12x instant kill a bad guy!

Isn't this what soft lead round balls have been doing for over 300 years? You get hit with one...you're DRT.

I'm going to say any ammunition that needs to resort to using women on their boxes to sell isn't worth getting.

Usually I'd hold my verdict until I tried it myself but honestly I can't afford to. I'll stick to my regular old jacket hollow points for my carry gun.

Anything that advertises itself as "The best ammo for killing people, EVER!" just seems like a really, really bad idea to use for self-defense, even if their claims are 100% accurate.

I can just see an overzealous DA's prosecutor holding up a copy of the ad and telling a shocked jury how the defendant was just itching to kill. Even if it is a good shoot in the criminal court's eyes, I wouldn't want to risk the potential repercussions that could occur in a civil court.

My point exactly. They would have a field day with that one.
It's worthless to discuss the issue further. If a civilian or LEO wants to buy the stuff let them.

I saw that ad in my last copy of America's First Freedom. Very funny indeed.

It's just another over hyped ad, like with "Extreme Shock" ammo. From the way they described the ammo, it sounded like nothing more than a frangible round, something that's been around for a long time.

So, if I got shot in the arm with this Fairy Dust bullet, I would be an instant dead guy?

Forgetting all the issues involved with advertising claims, I figure that this ammunition has been built using the Powdered Metal technology. This process has been in use for decades in the manufacturing of carbide tool inserts used in the machinist trade. Various grades of tungsten carbide powders are mixed with binder compounds. Then they are poured into a mold and compressed to the desired shape. Then they are sintered using heat to bind the components together. The metal powders don't actually melt, as in melting metal in a furnace, but the binding compounds hold it all together.

Perhaps this allows their claims of it containing "powder".

One of the desired functions of frangible ammo is to breakdown into a powder or tiny particles as in the case of missing a target and hitting the pavement. Rather than ricochet down the block, the ammo would turn to dust. That was also a promise of the old Glaser ammo. There the tiny bird shot would splat on impact and not have any mass to carry energy down range.

I'm wondering if the hitting of body fluids works on the incompressibility of a liquid to effectively become a solid and cause the bullet to turn into a powder?

Just guessing.

DRT Ammo from "cheaperthandirt.com"

If this ammo is all that it is cracked up to be , would'nt it be sold at gun dealers and ranges too ? I saw that add myself one day and questioned its repuataion that was written about it , the whole concept sounded interesting but over rated - at $54.97 for a box of only 50 rounds ?!?! thats a quarter of the price for a yearly membership at my gun range ? ($84.97 for a 50 rnd box of .308 & .30-06 *** ?) With all that said , I dont want to knock down "cheaper than dirt" because I am a happy customer of thiers from a vast supply of great stuff that they sell and they have a "free add" section on thier home page too , if you register you can sell fire arms and releted items on it with no charge - I sold a 12 gauge Mossberg Maverick 88 on thier site for $300 in less than a day :what:
Just my $.02
Bill

Me too - I don't need any of this new fangled super ammo - I shoot 45 ACP. It will drop the bad guy like a sack of potatoes, even if I hit him on the arm.
Yup, .45 ACP is the ultimate death-ray. You can hit the ground 6 feet in front of them and the fear will kill them.
