Someone recently was asking whether Hakan was still around; bored at the office, I looked him up and found he made 1911 grips with a wood (Olive) I had struggled to find being used by anybody else (indeed, any of the other custom grip makers I have bought from). I emailed him and found he had blanks in stock, and asked him to make up a set for me.
Sorry, I'm no good at posting pictures, but will be happy to report:
1. He's still out there (Norway that is) and I had a set of 1911 grips made for 92 Euros (roughly 80 odd £, and even cheaper in $) total time about 6 weeks shipped to my address in the US (I work in the UK).
2. He is very polite and exacting; asking me about features of my guns and what I wanted on the grips. Pictures are lovely.
3. I mentioned someone on THR had been asking if he was still in the game, and opined that he was a well-kept-secret; he didn't seem to get much publicity, but all I've ever heard about him has been great.
He shared that he has had some health problems that slowed him down a bit.
Even so, My order was completed and shipped in a bit less than six weeks from a pair of blanks; I asked for smooth with only bevel cuts.
We have passed emails back and forth during this time and I have had a really good experience here.
Just wanted to share it and let you guys know he is still out there and does great work. Check him out search Hakan Pek.
Cheers, J
