Any forum members ever buy or carry the Sheepdog Woodworks wood baton?
The website looks impressive. It's a custom/one man shop so delivery of these impact weapons takes several weeks/months but the prices aren't super high compared to ASP or PR-24 type batons. $89-110.00 USD range(05/08/2014 prices).
A recent gun press magazine for law enforcement/armed professionals stated more cops are moving back to traditional wood type batons over the expanding/collapsible versions(ASP).
I have not packed a baton since the early 1990s, as a lower enlisted MP, so I'm a bit out of the game.
A high end wood night-stick or "billy club" wouldn't hurt to carry on some security posts. It's not ideal but could be used in limited conditions that may require "less lethal" force.
The magazine article listed a few other popular LE designs but the "Sheepdog" model looks decent for most uses.

Sorry for the necro post, but my enthusiasm for his work provoked me.

I have 2 if his sticks, one full sized stick resides on my side of our bed, the other a custom baton, is my frequent silent companion in my comings and goings. Absolutely gorgeous cocobolo, can't speak of his work highly enough.
Recommended without reservation.

Regards, Jim

I would think ipe, jatoba or lignum vitae would be be better choices than cocobolo.

Impact batons, night-sticks.....

The use of ASPs & wood night sticks came up in another forum post.
I like the Sheepdog Woodworks style but have seen a few others.
The Harris Magazine; Guns & Weapons For Law Enforcement had a detailed look at the return of wood/old style impact weapons by US law enforcement officer & private security.

I like the 21" size. I may buy a Sheepdog Woodworks night-stick but more for the collector value than duty use.
The idea of adding it to my duty belt or having it for some security posts is comforting though, ;) .

Sheepdog Woodworks

I ordered a baton from sheep dog wood works on 4/13/2013 paid in full I waited and waited I received a email about him getting sick and there was a back order and I haven't heard anything since I tried to contact him by both phone and email still no answer I would like either my baton or money back anyone else having these problems with sheepdog woodworks if not how can I get ahold of him so I can get this resolved.

You waited a year and a half before asking yourself about getting your money back?
Maybe check with your credit card company or bank, the record will still be there.

Good luck.

20+ years ago, I was issued a full size baton. I left it in the car more times than not. For over 15, I have carried an ASP. I much prefer the compact design.

Virginia's AG consumer affairs office....

I checked www.AG.virginia.gov .
They have a internet purchase(s) complaint section on the form. The consumer affairs form is available printed or online.
If the forum poster or any other unsatisfied Sheepdog Woodworks customer has or kept the transaction records(emails, invoices, order forms, texts, etc) they can take it all to the Virginia's AG office. The business website states it's located in Culpepper VA(near Charlottesville).
I'm not a JD or business expert, but the AG's office should be able to assist you in obtaining a refund.
You shouldn't have to go to small claims court over it but you'd get a judgement there if the shop owner(Drew) never returned your recent calls/emails.

If the business is closed or the owner/CEO went bankrupt you may still have issues.

Many reputable companies like Lenny Magill's Glockstore.com or Rob Barkman; Robarguns.com do not charge your card or take payment until your completed order ships. :D

Since 2008/2009 1000s of new gun owners & CCW holders have saturated the US shooting sports industry. The business is not set up for this volume/expansion IMO. Many of the custom shops or holster/gear makers are 1-3 employee shops. They are 3/6/12 months behind on orders .
Keep this in mind when you order. Call or contact the shop/business first. If they are huffy or "offended" because you have concerns, walk away. They aren't worth your $ or time.

35 years ago I made my own billy I carried on the job from Ironwood. It's still as beautiful and STRAIGHT today as it ever was. My son now carries it on the job.

Ironwood is a pain in the AZ to initially lathe and shape, but it is well worth the effort. I made mine from the root of the iron wood.
