I bought one of these for .223 for $65 delivered and got it in about three days. That isn't cheap and I admit it isn't something you have to have but I think it is pretty neat.

I have and will continue to use my Wilson gauge but the Sheridan is supposed to be more or less SAAMI minimum chamber size and you can see what the round looks like in the chamber.

It is made of stainless and the only issue I have is I have to use somethingl to push the brass or loaded round out. I think the Wilson gauge is more for length of the brass and does not check the diameter of the brass. Two different tools for two different but similar purposes.

I guess I am just a sucker for do dads but I am really impressed with the quality and the concept of the tool.

The Wilson does not check diameter. Sure, if the OD is way off it would fail the gauge, but it is not designed to check diameter.

The Wilson gauge checks case length and shoulder position. If you size to fit the gauge the head clearance will be OK in any SAMMI spec chamber that is cut properly. (Headspace of chamber is correct)

The Sheridan checks diameter also. I have one of each for .223.

Sheridan Gauge

Received my Sheridan gauge last week. I was having problems chambering 223 reloads and was using a Dillon case gauge. It was recommend by somebody on this forum to get the Sheridan gauge and I did. The questionable rounds fit the Dillon gauge with but not the Sheridan gauge. resized and problem is gone.

I guess that I have been lucky up till I had this problem but if I have had the Sheridan gauge I would have caught the problem early on.
