Shoot .40S&W out of 10mm barrel?

Not that I would ever do this but-
what would happen if you were to shoot a .40S&W round out
of a 10mm barrel?
Assuming that it fed, since it can't headspace on the rim it
would be held in place by the bolt and extractor.
A short distance of free flight through the 10mm case
length chamber, then the grooves of the barrel would catch it.
Just thinking out aloud...

The barrel on both 10mm and 40 S&W are identical in diameter so nothing would "happen"...

Only issue would be actually firing the cartridge. Chances are it would get pushed too far into the chamber to fire in any pistol.

The extractor would need to hold it well enough that it doesn't jump forward from the impact of the firing pin. It may work for a while but I don't see this being a good thing over the long haul for the hook of the extractor. Likely it would snap off after a few hundred rounds or so.

In terms of jumping the gap I don't see that it would do anything at all. In the S&W 610 revolver it is rated to shoot the shorter .40S&W and it works well. No issues with jumping the gap any more than with .38Spl in .357 chambers. The difference being that in the 610 it's got the moonclips holding more of the rim so the firing pin can't push the case forward.

Well that pretty much answers THAT!

Now if you had a drop in barrel chambered for .40 and a matching recoil spring on a guide rod ready to swap over I don't see why you can't do this without any trouble. I'd want some VERY prominient markings on the exposed portion of the barrel to be visible through the ejection port though. Far too easy to mess up otherwise.

i use lone wolf conversion barrels in my glock 29 the 10MM barrrel is marked 10MM while the 40 S&W conversion is marked 10-40

by the way, shooting the 40 S&W in a Glock 29SF is like a pea shooter compared to the full house 10 MM . Use the 40 S&W barrel at the indoor range when it is busy rather than the 10 MM . Dont want to lose my 10 MM brass.

i know someone who loaded 40's in a 10mm glock and it fired them
