I've been trying to decide what to buy with my piece of our economic stimulus money/tax return. I've gone back and forth over an LCP, a Ruger MKIII, a 1911, or "Other." Was leaning heavily toward the .22 with some optics.

On a whim (looking for a used Ruger MKIII), I stopped at one of the local gun shops this morning on the way to my meeting nearby. There in the case was a Springfield GI 1911, marked "Used." Asked to see the gun and the salesman - with whom I've dealt before - told me its story. A local businessman buys a couple guns a month, shoots some, keeps a few and trades some back in - sometimes unfired. This GI was one of those he bought and traded w/out firing.

I snatched it up, unfired - still in the factory goo - for $399.99. The only things missing from the case were the instruction manual and the locking cable. I just checked Buds online and they sell the same model for about $520, so I think I did pretty good. How 'bout you?

I think you did just fine on the price, and a M1911 was on your short list, so I believe congratulations are in order for your contribution to stimulate the (local) economy.
