Note: Cooper is correct in stating a golf course is total waste of a rifle range.
I am sure the Col, would be in agreement even a Shotgun Range of some sort is even better. Always wondered how dove hunting would be on one too...*smirk*
One can play a round of golf with only a Seven Iron and a Putter. Golf Bags are better suited to haul long guns in anyway.

Shotgunners sometimes borrow ideas from other disciplines - err...even golf.

So the game was - you had to shoot your age...Allow me clarify this - not the score - the AGE of the shotgun.

1955 870 Wingmaster was my choice :D I mean heck in many ways it is in better shape than I am...It too seems to have had an emergency appendectomy - we have similar scars...:p

I just thought it was bad seeing the muscle cars I grew up with antique plates...

"We don't have a shotgun my age". So the young lady piped up with a grin...hoping to shoot a newer gun she is awesome with.

Being in charge of the Reprobates Us Be [Rubs] I get to make rule changes...err...rulings.

"Shoot one your age or older"
[see why I am in charge?]

Now a guy really does not want to know a ladies age or weight - we just want to see if they will tell us.

By the way, this is not the same reason why a lady asks a guy "does my butt look big" - they really want to know, if you are going to lie, or can fake sincerity would you say "oh baby you have a nice butt".
[I stay in trouble what do I care?].

Now the seventy-five year gentleman was laughing, "done stepped in it lets see how deep he goes...".

"Darling how old are you, you do not look a day over 21"
<Southern drawl, tip bandana, wink, and all that Southern Charm - then grin>

"How old is that gun?"
"1965 model"
"How about that one?"
"1975"
"Understand it is OLDER than me, but I like the Sx1 "

[in case you missed that last line - I gotta '74 SX1 ,she chose a '75 model SX1 and remember my comment about antique plates on muscle cars?]

"What about us, we want to shoot too"

Big sis, younger brother , cute as buttons, and both want to shoot , only problem is, only single shots we see out are New ones...we have a nine and seven year old...with hopeful eyes, bit of pouty quiver lip...

Emergency meeting of Rubs...and the one man committe has a plan ... <hollerrs out>
"Somebody has got to have a older single shot in all the crap we drug out here".

I must delgate real well because the seventy five year old gentleman , hands his keys to a younger lady...she digs around " found one! "

"Reb, what would you have done it I had not had that gun?"
"Most likely had another emergency meeting of Rubs and Broke the Rules, bent them, or flat made up something off the cuff for the kids"
"Yeah figured that, shoulda kept quiet, I get a kick out of watchng you think on your feet..."

"Yeah". - kids

I have a real good chance of re-electing myself in charge of my one man committee for sure...

So we head to just have some fun, easy targets, and targets for the kids.

Kids - "that is a different gun, it is really older than you?"

"Yes it is , it is a '97 model" - Replied the seventy-five year old gentleman

Kids heads look up then down, fingers being counted...

"1897 not 1997"

"Wow!"

I asked if he knew the year of his " I forget, have to look it up, Noah said to pack two of everything, so I bought two and jumped into a big boat and then it rained like hell for a bit" :D

<quizzical looks from kids, adults nodding in agreement with straight faces>

The older gentleman and the rest of us at this moment- just figure some things a parent needs to parent - let them figure this out and answer questions...:p

Old Remington's in 870, 1100,3200, Winchester's from 42 , 12, 1897, 1300, 1400, Ithaca 37s, Citori, ...paper hulled shells in my case, others too, just cause we had them and wanted to.

Kids fired primer only shotgun shells in the '97, thought it was really cool, and of course we had to assist, still they shot some primer only in other guns too to see how they worked and all.

Boy are the parents gonna be surprised...Kids decided they need to check out the gun books and Internet and get a really cool gun made in the year they were born.

"What guage should we get".

"28 gauge one never outgrows a 28 gauge..." [one guess who made that suggestion].

"Yeah, we like the 28 gauge!" :D

[what do I care - I stay in trouble]

Had a ball just having fun Shooting our Age.

Steve

Very good. This is how I wound up with a safe full of 870's! "But honey, this one is a little closer..."
Finally, found a '55 WM which is as close as I can seem to get. Did they stop making 870's in the 60's or are they so fine that nobody sells 'em?
Good one Steve.
Mike

PS. I also tried the following:

Year I got married.
Year of High School Graduation.
Wife's birth year (darn, same as mine!)
Year of her graduation.

You can tell she loves me 'cause she "falls" for it every time.

Are you at it again Steve?

kudu,
Be nice, you do have twins, that means two 28 gauges of the same year for you. :)

'Sides what do mean again? I have my role - and I happen to do it very well...

9mmMike,

We are one the same page - you are supposed to collect the whole set...rationalize anyway that works.

Coleman lanterns, the single mantles are better, found a '54 model, not found a '55 one - yet.

Word is , them kids had a few "questions" for the parents (Aunt brought them out) had to do with Noah with using a 9.9 Wizard Outboard, where folks bought shotguns back then, and where to find JMB in the Good Book.

[yeah the kids know better - still they took notes, recited back, and all...I mean us kids do have to stick together on driving parents nuts...right? :p ]
