We all know they just finished making the book Point of Impact into the movie 'the shooter'. We all know
1. Point of Impact is a great book by Stephen Hunter
2. bob lee was a vietnam vet, walberg is too young
3. walberg hates guns, plus he is a felon, so he breaks the law by touching them, apparently different laws for the rich and famous.
I do NOT want to discuss these aspects.
In the preview I have seen BobLee is wheeling a cart up to what turns out to be a gun store, in it along with a bunch of stuff is a rifle box clearly labeled 300 winmag.
We know how the media portrays guns has a big impact on the general population, lawmakers, videogame makers, and wannabee storytellers.
Will sales of 300 winchester magnum rifles go up after this movie?
Will we start to see more 300 winmags in video games, movies, tv shows like 24? Will Law and Order, CSI, NCIS, and the rest now reach down and scoop up an empty cartridge from the rooftop and say 300winmag in stead of 7.62 or 308?
Now, there has been much pressure to ban '50 caliber sniper rifles' and they often tack on 'and intermediate sniper rifles too'. I cannot find it now but VPC had at one time an article denouncing non-50 caliber sniper rifles, saying that the gun industry was catering to 'sniper wannabees' with models like the 700 Sendero, Savage Tactical, among others, with soundbits such as 'the 30-30 works fine for deer, why do they need these guns?' 'most deer are taken within 100 yards, yet these guns can shoot 1000 yards' 'Precision shooting and Tactical shooting is just code for 'sniper!' Get these 'code word sniper' rifles off our streets!
Will the portrayal of the 300 winmag in this movie make us see even more of this kind of thinking, demonizing the accurate rifle, the craft of precision riflery, or will we see more guys at the gunshop talking about how when they were a seal they had a rifle just like this except it was in 300 winmag, because that can shoot through a train engine.?
