Shooting Chrony, out of business?

Their products were pretty decent for the monies and quite popular. With the increased interest in reloading in the last few years, you'd think the demand for chronos would have increased too.

Just as I was considering buying one of their products. Oh well.

Thanks.

I would get another for what mine cost me. I have several other brands though. The pro chrono is my #2 in the handy category so I keep it at the farm. The Pact XP gives more information than any other chronograph I have ever used. It’s really a chronograph and ballistic library and calculator all in one unit.

The Shooting Chrony still gets used the most.

I'm still using my basic unit from 1992... so I don't really know how much 'support' I need on what was a very good product to start with. Lessee... that translates to $3.50/yr if you amortize it out... pretty good deal there, even if I shoot it tomorrow.

I have considered getting a new one... I'd love to find one on clearance somewhere...

That would be a shame if they have gone out of business. There are better Chrono's with more bells and whistles but the Shooting Chrony was always such a nice compact unit and was more than accurate enough for most uses. I have and Alpha Master that I have been using since 2003 or so and its been a solid performer for me. I packs nicely into my range box too.

Right. Unless you shoot it, then doubt if support is much use regardless of bells and whistles, unless of course the higher priced models are either boiler plate or carry a regardless sorts of guarantees.

I own two of them, nice units and not expensive. In today's world, going out of business does not Mean Going Out of Business.

Actually... they did. If you blasted your Chrony, they had a program where they would rebuild it for a nominal fee... I don't recall what it was.

I shot up the rods that hold the sun screens. Sometimes I forget to turn it off and kill battery. So pretty much any problem I've ever had has been my fault. I'd buy another if I was in the market , even if they are going out of business. Might be an option to get one on clearance sale soon if that's the case.

The only dislike I had was mine would go haywire at an indoor range where I used to be a member, but others had different brands that weren't affected by the CFL & fluorescent tube lights there. But since I only shoot outdoors now, that gripe went away.

I'd buy another one. If I could find one and needed one. Good price for what you get. Mine has never needed service. Works great and I have never shot it.

Ace hardware for the 1/8" dowels. I use long plastic stirring straws without the screens on overcast days just to define the area of the sensors. No screens needed.

Wish I knew that. I have shot one that was not mine, and seen two others destroyed back in the day.

Magnetospeed for me!

Where do you find wood dowels that small diameter?

I had no trouble finding some at the big or small renovation / hardware stores for this purpose.
I used a drill press to drill through 2" sections of larger dowel to act as joiners for the small dowel sections.
You glue the joiners part way on to the bottom 4 of the small dowel sections and connect the sections together Tinker-Toy fashion.
I also replaced the clunky light diffusers with pieces of thin plastic sheet the same assembled size.
These too had Tinker-Toy dowel sections attached to them with wood screws.
Some sanding may be required, and the new diffusers won't fit into the folded Chrony.

Still have my first chrono - an F1 chrony. Have not used it in a long time. I even have the printer for it as well.

wow. Might explain going under. More than a few get hit. Don’t think one would come back from even a pistol strike full on.

I don’t have the means to, shooting at a club or commercial range, but at least one you tuber has a set up where the unit sits down behind a chunk of log sitting length wise positioned off the end of his bench, just the screen rods extending above. . Nothing normal size gets thru that.

Still have my second one from the 90s. The first one jumped up in front of my buddy's AR, so he bought me # 2.

Bought this in the late 70’s. Uses the printed screens visible in the photo. The steel mount opens to 24” spacing and mounts to a camera tripod. Reads one digit at a time. Uses big old lantern battery. 6 volts. I hit the mount and screen brackets a few times. 57D04B1A-D92E-4A60-A7AB-A5C23AFA8093.jpeg
The box was the brides roller skate box when she was a girl.
