Shooting glasses

I am getting contacts so I will need some real shooting glasses instead of half-assing with my regular glasses.

Any recommendations?

Oakley. I don't use a prescription, but I know you can get them made with one.

You might look at getting something from Smith. While not strictly shooting glasses, they're worn by a lot of people engaged in outdoor sports like skiing and mountain biking, and they work well.

They've got some models that allow you to swap out lenses, and it can be helpful to drop in orange, yellow, red, or clear lenses depending on the conditions at the range.

"...half-assing with my regular glasses..." That they ain't. All prescription lenses are impact resistant. Asked about it when I got glasses. However, if you're going to contacts, any industrial safety glasses will do nicely. You don't have to spend a plie of money.

Oakley Pro-M with the G20 lens. IIRC, those were made specifically for outdoorsmen for better depth perception and UV filtering.

For twenty bucks these are what I bought. They are slightly adjustable and have nice clear lenses. The major reason why i bought them is i found the red amber lenses to fit me perfectly. A little less harsh than the standard yellow.

These look great, I'm sold after the video. One question maybe i am overlooking something. Take the shooters package, cost is $119 a little expensive but like specialist stated my eyes are worth it. Why don't people buy the replacement frames for $35, and the lens pack of 3 for $19? Wouldn't that be the same thing maybe minus the carrying case and lens cloth?

The lenses cut for the frameless insert cost me $50 at my local shop. $120 total for clear, smoke and amber lenses, and the prescription.

Some of the Oakley frames don't work as well with muffs as others (too thick). I had a set of half-jacket (I think) and I could never get the muffs to seal right. Gave them to a friend who uses plugs and he loves 'em.

hmm.. well I use contacts as well, but I just use some Nemesis safety glasses, they're cheap, bout $5 a pair so it doesn't really matter if you lose a pair or a friend accidentally 'borrows' them Plus, if they get scratched or broken its not really a big deal.

I wear contacts. I bought a couple pairs of the winchester clear shooting glasses at wal mart. That way I can replace mine if i scratch them up too bad or if I need to loan out a pair. I prefer the clear lenses to yellow, but that's just me. If it's excessively bright or I'm at another range (not my "home" range) that doesn't offer the shade mine does, I'll wear my Ray-Ban aviators. Yes, the reflective kind. Like the terminator.

EDIT: Your contacts probably won't feel comfortable for more than a few hours the first few days. I've been wearing contacts for 9 years. I wear Acuvue 2s. If your eye doctor hasn't recommended any length of time to wear them for the first few days, try this:

The first day, wear them for 2 hours. For every day after this, add 2 hours. Your contacts will get a protein build up and become blurry when they've been on for too long. They also might feel like they are drying out. If you feel any of this, go ahead and take them out. Your eyes will adjust to them and pretty soon you'll forget you even wear contacts until it's time to take them out or put them back in.
