In the UK we use supressed centerfires for all sorts of hunting. Just use your normal choice of bullets. I would go for a 165 interlock, hotcor, magtip or similar. Tough but not premium.
Your good to go in TX, hogs and other non game animals are OK. I have used just about everything down to 150g spire point for them. I don't use the 308/suppressor combo as much now that I built a 458 socom/suppressor combo, subsonic and still plenty of power.
I use the same ammo in my 308 with or without a suppressor. Hornady 150gr sst. I may be playing around with some other loading this year, but if it ain't broke don't fix it.
I use Federal Gold Medal 168 Sierra Matchking BTHP ammo for all of my 308's except the 1919. Federal labels them as target/competition, any idea if they are ok for hogs?
i tried some of the sierra matchkings fired from my .30-06 into a massive block of something similar to ballistics gel. it really didnt make an impressive wound channel. the m2 ball made a better one surprisingly and the ballistic tip round made the best one.
in all of my .30 cals i use either hornady SP or their ballistic tips. only had a deer walk about 6 feet and 1 bear took 2 strides.
I bow hunt hogs and once they spook out of there most of the time they dont come back. I have gun hunted hogs unsuppressed and had them come back after 15 minutes of shooting. I am contemplating a savage bolt action hog gun with a can but I want it because it is cool, not because it is going to increase my odds of shooting a second hog.
