Funny, I've been hunting " rain, snow and sunshine" for????? Some 50 odd years with ??? Wood stocks. No warp yet. But, I must have been doing it wrong.

If I know it will be raining I rub Johnson’s paste wax on a rag over steel and wood lightly. I wipe down asap when I get home.

Outside of a random rain during a USPSA/IDPA match I don't ever shoot in the rain.

I’ve literally gone to the range in the middle of a tornado before. Owner decided to close up early when he saw the funnel cloud touch down got in his car drove past the 300 yard lanes where I was rolled down his window and yelled to close the gate behind me when I left.
wet wasn’t so much the issue as the wind making it really hard to hit the target…. I ended up switching to the 100yrd range XD
Worse I ever got was a little bit of surface rust on the barrel that came right off with some clp and a good wipe down.

It may not be practical for you, but it's amazing how handy a lil pop up table and tent is for these occasion, and the bonus is you can use them for 4th of July BBQ and other family gatherings, cookouts, yard sales, etc..... should be able to get a compact foldable, stowable table and 4 post tent for under $100.
Like I said, may not be practical for everybody but it's a great solution for keeping your gear dry, that way you can set up and have all your stuff out, and bring an umbrella for posting/checking targets. Hard to enjoy yourself when you're wet and miserable but the bonus is you can pretty much guarantee the range all to yourself when it's raining

When needed, I just use "rig." Wipe whatever weapon I`m using down with it knowing it`s well protected.

More likely I’ve done it wrong. The problems I’ve had were mostly, make that entirely, when I was younger and dumber… I have also pretty much quit hunting in the rain, well, I may sit in a shooting house if you count that but it’s hard for me to call the hunting.

I've never really thought about it. If the gun gets wet I dry it off, never had a rust issue.
