Went to the range and decided to do some compare and contrast between my .40 S&W carry pistols. Also wanted to burn up some small lots of .40 ammo.
I hate coming home and discovering I've got 5 rounds left of some load, or 10 rounds. Decided to grab them and shoot them up so I can start streamlining my stash of .40 S&W ammo.
Ended up deciding it would be fun to shoot each pistol at 10 yards, 10 rounds, in 10 second to compare them.
Not really a true comparison, since each pistol did not use the same load, or use a load that is optimized for it. They all got a different load, and some had two different loads in each mag. So not really fair, but was still interesting.
First up was the Glock Gen 5 G23. Not bad at 2 3/8"...
Then fired the M&P40c. This was my carry pistol for years, but the accuracy was just not there. It showed in this shootout with a 4" group. However, it was the most naturally pointing and consequently was the most centered group...
Next up was my Remington R1 Limited Match, which is the most accurate of my .40's, but perhaps transitioning to it's crisp and light trigger pull threw me off, since it had a disappointing 3 1/4"...
I also have a Glock G35 and a full-size M&P40, but left them at home.
For comparison, I decided to shoot my current carry gun, a Sig P365, to see how it did. 3 1/2".
So, going off of ease of shooting and and smallest group size, the G23 wins.
I shot it slow-fire at 10 yards off-hand and five rounds to see how it did. 1.5" group, which is not that great. But, I am overdue for new glasses and all my pistol groups with open sights have doubled the past year, so...
I don't see any great disparity between any of the pistols to declare one the only logical choice, especially when you factor in overall size. But, I have been carrying the G23 lately and today's exercise was another notch in it's favor.
