Good luck on finding somewhere near Florence to shoot! I too have been looking for some where to zero my WASR-10 (AK) and have all but given up. All the ranges I have used long ago have closed down. I have tried the NRA range finder and several others with no luck. A couple of private clubs that are not accepting new members came up. I am at the point of driving out to the country and setting up some targets in a field and just hope no farmer or sheriff shows up. I see this is an old thread so I post this hoping something new has come up.
I grew up in Florence and sadly, gone are the good ole' days when the police range was open to the public. These days there are two options if you don't know someone with enough open property where it is safe to shoot. The first is, join the Wildlife Action League. They are a hunting/fishing conservation and education organization who maintain rifle, pistol and skeet ranges, as well as archery ranges (3D I think). Dues are reasonable and they are a good organization. There is also a private range called the Plinking Pit in Florence. I think you can find either on the internet.
Just turned this thread up accidentally. Al, that range is mostly closed. A stray round was found near a nearby house, and the range is now closed to normal shooting. The only way you can shoot there currently is if you have a member of the Board of Directors with you, or at one of the pistol matches on the first Saturday of the month. Currently the options in Florence are Wildlife Action or the Plinking Pit. One other option is Pee Dee Gun Club, a 200 yard range near Dovesville. They have no website; a search for Pee Dee Gun Club actually turns up something different near Coward that might be worth looking into. I can get contact info for anyone that wants it.
Para, you are sort of stuck. MidCarolina might be an option for you, but it's a bit of a drive. There is a range in the Manchester State Forrest which is on the other side of Sumter.
Ok, I found and joined this club. The Plinking Pit Shooting range,Highway 327, Florence SC. I think it was 75.00 a year and you get a key to the gate. 100 yds, covered shooting benches, nothing fancy. contact: [email protected]

The lack of ranges in Florence makes me quite sad. Sounds like there's nothing that can be had quick and easy! My girlfriend and I often head to her home so we can visit her parents. I was hoping to bring my new pistol...
Now I was told by my son that he swore he heard a radio commercial for an indoor range now in Florence. I had heard the rumor for some time that one was being built. He didn't catch the name or location, and I cannot find anything still in a web search.
Opening in June of 2012 is a new Indoor Range called "Blue Line Shooting Center." They will be located just off of North Cashua Street near the old Mr. Mark's Fun Park. Check out their website at http://www.bluelineshootingcenter.com!
Indoor ranges that are clean and have both heat and air conditioning... Florence and also Charleston, SC? Seems like opportunities that need to be exploited. As well, Myrtle Beach...is there an nice range there, can anyone name one? We are scouting cities that could use a new facility.
RE: Florence...I see North Cashua Street now. Who's range equipment are you using? Targets down and back, turning, tactical? # of shooting lanes? Look forward to updates as opening day approaches. And Congrats!
