Recently moved to Mississippi. Using google, I have not had much success finding places to shoot pistols and rifles. Any tips?

Having trouble with the maps, maybe it's my browser. I am in Meridian, and the closest public range I have found is in Clinton, 90 minutes away. I know there must be some shooting clubs around here but they have been hard to find.

Up in Ohio, go to the local gun store and there will usually be a flier about one or more local clubs on a bulletin board or near the register. I have asked around in several shops around here and they haven't been able to recommend anything. There are police ranges but all are "active law enforcement only" although there have been rumors of a couple opening to the public.

There is a range at Meridian with limited membership. I think it may be the police range. I don't know anything else about it. Ask at the local gunshops or call MPD and ask their firearms trainer. You may have to get on a wait to join list. There is also one at Forest, about an hour west of you - the Sherman Hill Shooting Center. Call Clyde Morgan in Brandon about it - 601-825-3971 or email [email protected]

I'll post again if I find anything else.

Always check with your state's Fish and Wildlife department, a public range may be claser than you think.

Also check with your county. At least in NC, there seems to be a trend where a county builds a range whose primary use is police training, but it off hours, a private gun club runs it.

The Outer Banks Gun Club is that model (I think), as well as the Wake County Range.

E-mail sent. I called the Meridian PD because I had heard they going to start to open to the public, but the answer was LEO only.

Too bad, they could probably make a little money opening it up a day or two a week, and I doubt they would have much trouble getting people to have good manners and behave safely.

Got an e-mail back from Clyde Morgan, apparently the range was closed for awhile but they are planning to reopen in April with a website to go up in February. Forest is a few miles, but a reasonable ride on Saturday.

John, I will try a couple of those phone numbers but I think they may either be out of date, or be very small private clubs. I am familiar with one of those areas and there is NOTHING there now. Another appears to be the address of the Police range.

Hey, thanks, everybody.
