Shooting Ranges

I am not sure if this is the proper place for this thread I have looked elsewhere and could not find another section.

I am looking for a range that I can shoot anything from my handguns to my high power rifles where I live. I can only find one or 2 of them in the area and most are private and are full.
I live just south of WIlliamsburg, VA.
Does anyone know of someplace that is not listed on the NRA site?

Thanks!

Yep, this is the forum for it. :) I changed your thread title to attract folks who are most likely to know.

Hope you get lots of help.

I saw that and it was very quick! Thank You

I came back to it while I was still searching.

I know there has to be somewhere around here that is not listed but there.

Rperry, others will help, I'll get you started. First off you have to let me eventually sucker you into IDPA and IPSC, I luv getting others addicted.

For ranges there is Lafayette Gun Club near Yorktown. It is private, it may be full, but worth a look.

I am thinking about joining Izaak Walton in Richmond to get at their ranges for doing IPSC practice.

Best free bet for you is Chickahominy. The Chick is a Wildlife Management area that offers some good hunting. They also have a free range there, out to 100 only though for rifles. I go there to shoot blackpowder. The range is fiercely busy towards hunting season, but pretty quiet after that. All rifle shooting has to be done from a bench since the line is covered and enclosed with firing ports only in front of the benches. The pistol/ SG line is covered, but more free-form. Read the rules, it is unsupervised(won't see me there around hunting season) but patrolled by rangers. Bring clothespins, their target hanging system consists of chickenwire of all things. It's out on Rte 5 west of town. I can fill you in more through e-mail.

I normally shoot in VaBch at an all caliber indoor range, but take any chance I get to shoot.

the west point gun club is just across the river from the town of west point in king and queen county. we have a 6 point 100yd range and like 6 or so 50yd pistol points. the range is going to be expanded soon with up to (hopefully) a 300yd rifle range, a pistol range and a shotgun range. cowboy action shoots there once a month and highpower shoots reduced 100yd matches once a month. we also have a group that shoots highpower at quantico and that goes to nationals at camp perry every year. for more info call 804-785-7050 and ask for howard or 804-785-2575 and ask for bob or 804-843-3260 and ask for russell.

For pistol calibers out to 25 yds there is the Marksman in Newport News. Take 64 east the exit 250 Fort Eustis Blvd heading to Fort Eustis (Rt 105 W). Exit on 60 E and take a left at the third (I think) lt. That is Industrial Park Drive. Cross the RR tracks and there it is on the rt. Hours Noon to 1900 M-F have to be on the range by 1800, 1200 to 1800 S&S. These are Summer hours and they get a bit more generous in the fall. Nice folks. $7/hr you buy their ammo, all factory stuff, $10/your stuff. Annual membership $100. I'm there a couple of times a week after work.

Thanks everyone.

It looks like there is a lot more places then you can find on the net. I will have to take my time and read over all the replies and check some places out.

I'll second The Marksman in Newport News, it is very nice range with good people, When I was in Richmond, we would drive to Newport News instead of buying double price range ammo. The range is filtered, has HVAC and very clean.
