Any one else here shoot right handed using their left eye?

For lots of firearms, I find my right eye is very problematic to line up nicely, but my left eye comes up very nicely and aligns very nicely.

This is especially true with scout scopes, seeing anything other than black through one is hard if I don't have my left eye open and lined up.

I'm right handed and left eyed. I was taught to keep both eyes open though, but when I do I'll sometimes see double then I'll shut my right eye. But almost all of my shooting is with a pistol.

I am solidly right-handed and left-eye dominant. In fact my eye site is better than normal with my left eye.

Pistol is no problem.

Shotgun, I need to learn to shoot trap left-handed. For now I close my left eye. Left hand shooting is awkward and humbling.

Scoped rifle I think I can shoot either right or left handed.

Cross dominant vision is a pain in the neck.

The only real solution is to learn to shoot left handed. I've known a couple of people who struggled with the issue. It was difficult at first, almost like learning to shoot all over again from scratch. But once mastered they have been much better off.

You should always shoot with both eyes open regardless.

So you're actually shooting right handed, laying your head sideways across the stock and using your left eye?
We see new very young shooters try this. For target shooting switching them to left handed when possible is ideal. In the short run a blinder or piece of tape over their left lense of their shooting glasses usually does the trick. If you can only see black through the scope with your right eye then the eye relief or your scope rings are wrong. I've worked with many people who had scope problems finding the sweet spot of eye relief. Mount the gun with your eyes closed, open your eyes and see if you need to move your head forward or back (relief problem) or up / down (ring / stock issue)
My wife was having lots of issues loosing scope picture in a timed rimfire event. Ended up getting a stock with a adjustable comb, problem solved, had to raise the comb 3/4".

If you find yourself is close quarters combat, being able to shoot off either shoulder is very helpful. Both eyes open always. I'm a lefty/left eye but was trained righty as per Uncle Sam. You might want to get a righty rifle with an offset scope like an M1D Garand ... Impossible for a lefty to use efficiently, and good for mashing my thumb...but just the ticket for you!

My wife is right handed and strongly left eye dominant. The best sighting system for her by a huge margin has proven to be an unmagnified red dot sight.

I'm also right handed but I'm half blind in my right so I just use higher rings so I can rotate my head and shoot right handed but I can also shoot left handed by keeping my head only lightly touching the stock. That way I can shoot left and right handed but I would definently practice left handed to if I were you. If it's like an rifle something I'm thinking of trying to is to get a stock with an adjustable cheek rest keep it all the way down when shooting right handed and raise it up a little when you shoot left handed so you get proper eye alignment.

In teaching pistol, with the left eye dominant student, both eyes open, tuck right side chin into arm. Lines left eye up.

When Dad was first teaching me to shoot (6-7 years old) he noticed that I was leaning my head over the comb to use my left eye on the irons. He corrected me and told me to use my right eye ... and that is what I did, very successfully, aamof.

It wasn't until many years later that I tumbled to the concept of cross-dominance.

Up until that point, with pistols, I closed my left eye. After that, I trained myself Left and both eyes open. Works great ... for me, at least. ;)

So I always shoot rifles Right (one eye) and Pistols Left (two eyes).

I am cross dominant as well - I shot left eye/right hand with handguns for many years before I bought a rifle. My solution is to train my right eye to pick up the sights on my rifle. It's a difficult climb but people do it all the time. If I briefly close my left eye while I'm first putting my cheek on the stock it works great - now just practice practice practice :banghead:
