Well, IDPA
http://IDPA.com is very popular in NC. In fact one of the three top national matches is held here every year in Oxford at The Range. It's called the Carolina Cup it is put on by Frank Glover and friends.
Within 45 minutes of you west along 421 we hold a IDPA club match on the first Saturday of the month in Wilkesboro these matches are put on by the Foothills Defensive Shooters (
http://www.foothillsidpa.com/) and we have on average about 35 to 40 shooters each month.
Going a little farther west up in Boone NC the Watauga gun club (
http://www.wgc-idpa.org/) puts on a club match on the third Saturday of the month. In fact the state championship will be next month at their range in Boone.
To the south of you just north of I85 at the Mecklenburg Wildlife Club (
http://www.mwcidpa.com/) they have a club match on the 4th Saturday of the month. They are a relative new club and have three bays so they shoot the first three stages then reset the bays and shoot the last three bays. Unlike a few of the other clubs in the state when they say they start shooting they mean it.
Finally going to your east you have two clubs that hold matches on the second weekend of the month. There is an indoor match held at the Personal Defense and Handgun Safety Center. (
http://www.pdhsc.com ) Their matches are Saturday evening and they have two indoor bays and have some of the most creative stages with limited facilities. Then on Sunday afternoon you can travel north of Durham to Oxford and the Range to test yourself against Frank's stages. Frank stages are very very fun and he is an evil designer (in a really, really good way.
)
Hope to see you at match soon.
