Hey everyone,

If you have a few minutes to spare, I'd love it if you'd take the following survey for me:

http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/2887697/970ee0464ae8

It's short, anonymous, about shooting, and you could win a $35 gift card from Cabela's, Brownell's, Midway USA, Bud's Gun Shop, Gander Mtn., or Amazon--your choice!

Sorry to jump the gun before really becoming a big part of the community. I suppose I was too excited by the survey being complete.

A bit about myself and the survey: I'm Ben - just an individual who loves guns and loves shooting but I've been disconnected from the shooting community a bit because I'm currently in New York City. I still shoot my 92fs every time I get a chance to go back to Ohio though.

I have a habit of trying to turn my hobbies into my career. I've done that with running and I'd like to eventually do that with shooting. I have some business ideas within the shooting industry but to make sure I'm going in the right direction I need input from folks like who can shoot more than I can (and don't live in a horrible city like NYC). More specifically, I need to validate some ideas and get a better idea of what I can offer to make the shooting industry better for all of us. Maybe my current ideas wouldn't help you guys at all and I need to go back to the drawing board. That's the intention of the survey. I don't want your emails for a mailing list, I just want your thoughts and opinions and I believe some gift cards are the least I can offer in return.

I hope that puts some of your worries to rest and I hope to get to know some of you better very soon by becoming more active on this forum.

Thanks!

I did the survey for you bud. I needed to kill 10 minutes anyway.

I find it a little off putting that you come here strictly to further your business interests, expect us to spend valuable time on a survey that benefits only you, and then you trash NYC. It's "horrible", but I guess you're making money there, maybe by working for an ad agency?

Sounds a little like a corporate hack attempting to sneak in by sounding like "one of the guys". Thanks, but no thanks.

Uh, huh? :scrutiny: Practically everyone who shoots, and has heard of NYC has the same opinion, even ones who live there. And there is (presumably) a drawing for a gift card for the participants. As many surveys as people do for fun online, and with customer feedback, I see no harm. It was stated that the OP enjoys shooting. How much range time is required to be welcomed into this group?

Thanks badkarmamib!

I'm far from a corporate hack and just trying to get closer to being "one of the guys" again. And in all hopes, I can give back some interesting correlations and other tidbits I find in analyzing the survey results...

NYC is one of the great cities of the world. For shooting, although there is a certain gun culture there, not so much. But to take a view that only shooting counts in rating a city is extremely shortsighted.

I still believe this post has more to do with business than sport. Dangling a carrot doesn't make that better in my opinion.

Done.

I don't agree. I found nothing wrong with the thread or the survey.

Second line of the survey: "The input you provide will be used to develop new products and/or services in the shooting industry."

That doesn't imply business to you?

It doesn't brother me at all. If it does bother you, don't take the survey. That's all there is to it.

I sure wish I had the ambition to make money with this hobby, instead of making money disappear...

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to pass along a few interesting bits of info about the survey that I've seen in analysis so far, as well as let you all know that the survey is still open through today if you want to get in on the gift card drawing.

A few trends so far:

Steel Ownership
Not surprisingly, steel ownership is greater among those who identify as living in a rural area, but it's also actually greater among those who shoot less in general (1-2x/mo compared to more frequently). Gong/circle type targets by far the most owned, and amongst those who shoot 1-2x/week or more, they are generally sourced from a local retailer or produced by the shooter whereas those who shoot less buy online more typically.

Competition
IPSC/USPSA style competition is less popular than IDPA among those who shoot 1-2x per month but more popular among those who shoot more frequently. Perhaps this is because the cost of competitive equipment in USPSA creates a barrier for those who don't shoot as much. Anyone care to hypothesize on that point further?

That's it for now, I'll have a lot more to pass on later after more analysis...and I'll be contacting the winners of the gift cards very soon! Thanks to everyone who has taken the survey thus far--your input is incredibly helpful!

You may be looking at it backwards. Typical IPSC/USPSA shooters practice more frequently than IDPA types. Not a slam, just an observation.

If I take my area. There are far more IDPA matches put on by various clubs than USPSA matches. That may be do largely in part to IDPA's lower overall round count which makes it more convenient on weeknights.

Depending on the division you choose the equipment is virtually the same except you will need addition magazines and a pouch or two for a class like USPSA Production.. Not exactly breaking the bank cost prohibitive.
