All of this is shooting an 8.5x10" target at 50 ft.

Taurus Gaucho SAA in .357
Cup n' Saucer stance (strong hand) = 3" groups
Cup n' Saucer stance (weak hand) = 3.5" groups
"Duelist" (Bullseye) single hand (strong hand) = 3" groups
"Duelist" (Bullseye) single hand (weak hand) = 5" groups

Pretty regular with this so okay now I practice with the semi-auto.

Springfield XD-40 (Service model)
Cup n' Saucer doesn't feel right with this gun so I switched to Isosceles.
Isosceles stance (strong hand) = 5" groups
Isosceles stance (weak hand) = Can't even call it a group, I was all over! :cuss:
"Duelist" (Bullseye) single hand (strong hand) = 2.5" groups
"Duelist" (Bullseye) single hand (weak hand) = 2.5" groups

So do I just need to do a lot of practice with the Isosceles stance or should I just not worry about it and stick with practicing "duelist".

Thats not bad shooting at all there bud, I try and practice all of the above only because you never really know which one you might have to end up using, so its good to practice all of them.

Thanks, it's taken me a while (and a decent mound of ammo) to get to that point. I figure the same thing about the stances, you never know what you are gonna need so I work on keeping my strong points strong (bullseye) and try to learn the other stances as I go.

Can you post photos of your stance?

I don't have any actual pictures of myself. But this page has pictures of the stances I'm referring to.

I've been using the "Bullseye" (I always knew it as the Duelist) stance for years so I have a LOT of practice with it.

No pictures of a "cup n' saucer" stance. I'll keep looking.

The Modern Isosceles is the new one to me that I was trying with the XD-40 though I apparently have also been using the The Chapman or Modified Weaver Stance without knowing it.

2.5 to 3" groups, and you're complaining????

I'd like to have a nickel for every rould I shot through my Dan Wesson .357 before I got down to 2.5" groups @ 50 feet... then I'd be not only a decent shot, but I'd be pretty well off... practice all variations of grip and stance, for sure... but smile and be happy too!

Not really complaining overall. I'm pretty satisfied with most of my shooting at this point. But I'm a little frustrated with that weak hand Isosceles stance where I'd suddenly be better off just throwing the gun at the target :D

here's a tip from experience, Don't use the cup n saucer grip for semi's. If you have a KB one of the places that hot gasses escape is down the magwell... usually blowing the guts out of the magwell. avoiding holding under the mag will avoid damage to your hands.

Just a followup on this thread. Got some great assistance from an instructor at the NRA range, adjusted my grip just a little bit and suddenly my two handed groups tightened right up. (Awwww darn, I'm gonna have to practice some more <grin>).
