This is the stainless pistol, no longer made, that shoots .22 mag. I have the one with a six inch barrel. .22 mag works fine in many rifles and revolvers but is problematic in a semi-auto pistol. I won't go into the reasons. My example, which I bought after reading a recommendation in Gunblast.com, had problems from the beginning. There were jams but the main problem was a failure of the slide to strip a round from the mag. We determined that this pistol liked PMC 44 gr ammo but not several varieties of 40 gr. Perhaps the pistol needed hotter ammo to cyccle fully. Following up on some success that I had in improving my Luger by shortening the recoil spring, last night I cut two coils off the Automag spring. If I ruined the spring, I can get another spring for $6. Today the pistol worked fine with PMC and CCI but wouldn't extract the Win ammo. Cases sticking in the chamber is one of the known problems with .22 mag. I didn't see any indication that I had overweakened the recoil spring. The slide went fully into battery every time with the PMC and CCI ammo. I see no signs of excessive wear or battering of the frame. So I feel I have made an improvement and will fire my remaining Win .22 mag through my Hi-Standard .22 mag revolver. My Automag has a rather hard but short trigger pull. I am going to look into lightening this.
