I like vent ribs on shotguns and I want to put one on my 590A1. Mossberg does not make a vent rib 590A1 barrel, but there are vent rib 835 barrels and I found a used one in a shop. Is it possible to have a long 835 barrel cut down to 18"? I am getting conflicting advice from people who are saying no because it's overbored, others say it won't matter with buckshot.

Yes you can install an 835 barrel on a 590A1 but there are a few caveats. You will be limited to 3 inch shells. It will only work with a 5 round mag tube. You can't fire slugs through an overbored barrel but I also don't think the shorter 835 deer barrels are overbored. Finally, you want to cut the vent rib at a spot where it attaches to the barrel which probably won't match up with the end of the barrel so it will look a little odd.
