Shot a mile!

wind was about 12-15mph

We were going to try .308 But did not get around to it.

You need to post your address, because when the feces impacts the ventilation, I think a lot of folks here at THR will want to be your neighbor. :D Durned good shooting. Liked that music at the end too.

Looks like great fun - and definitely good shooting. I look forward to the day, whenever it may come, that I get a chance to shoot at >200 yards.

Was the back stop sufficient to keep the skipping bullets from heading over into the canyon beyond?

Just curious, it looked like it might not be.

Also, what was the bullet drop for the two calibers at that range?

How big is the plate and how many rounds did it take with the .338 LM and .50 BMG to get on target?

Very good question and one that we need to continually ask ourselves, and sometimes each other! :)

Very powerful rounds shot at very long ranges do sometimes present special challenges in keeping everyone safe. Simply finding a place that can contain your bullets is one of them.

Rule 4: Know your target and what is beyond it.

Looks like Clayne's knowledgeable about the area and I'm sure checks the area beyond the target to make sure it is unoccupied (and STAYS unoccupied) before (and during) each shooting session.

Awesome shooting! I've used your videos to teach the kids about the relative speeds of sound and light. And about the sorts of things you might say when your target falls down at a mile away! LOL!

There is a ridge beyond the hill top we were shooting at, that even if the bullet was a clean miss over the top of the hill it would NOT make it over the next one, A valley with no roads threw it Between the hill top and the next ridge. and beyond that miles of nothing.

Google earth is awesome. And I have been on every dirt road in the area. I know it like the back of my hand.

Took 3 or 4 shots to get on target with the .338, we had 3 consecutive hits with 3 different shooters with the .338! it was crazy to me that 3 different shooters could lay down and take a shot each and connect once the dope was figured out.

So many variables at that range, mostly the shooter... and all the rest that goes into shooting long range!

the 50bmg took a few more being that we just threw the scope on there with no zero, So I guess you could say it is now zeroed at a mile! haha

Making it look easy...I love that the 50 knocked the target over. Never doubt the power of a giant freaking bullet. ;)

WOW, That looks like so much fun. I hope I''ll be able to do that with my big 50.
You guys had a gereat day out in the wilderness for sure. Congratulations on some mighty fine shooting.

thanks. kind-of funny to see the target give up after being hit with the .50 :)
