Ontario has a significant presence here. Ontario is known for making quality knives at extremely fair prices.

One designer that Ontario has worked with recently is Justin Gingrich of Ranger Knives.

Ontario has versions of quite a few of Justin's designs in both canvas micarta (my favorite handle material) and cord-wrapped, and they are still very affordably priced.

Paul Scheiter has designed the Blackbird SK-5 Survival Knife, which is being made by Ontario. This is a bushcraft style knife, but with a couple of additional features that make me prefer it to other bushcraft designs I've seen. (if you see expert knife commentary under my name, assume John was editing an initial post I made.)

5" blade length, my favorite micarta slabs, comfortable handle with integrated guard, 154CM steel.

Comes with an excellent Eagle sheath.

These will be available first from Hedgehog Leatherworks. From what I saw, and my handling of this knife, this would be on a short list of knives I might suggest for people who wanted an excellent multipurpose knife without a lot of weight.

I was looking at Ontario Knives the other day and was admiring Justin Gingrich's work. Nice to put a face on the name. I really like the Blackbird SK-5; keepin' it simple!

Good stuff. Thanks guys.
